PREFACE. THE present Edition of the Colonial Office List has been carefully revised throughout, and the Editors desire to express their thanks for the ready co-operation and assistance which the Colonial Governments and their colleagues in the Office have accorded' to them. They will be glad to receive information of any errors or omissions which may be discovered, and to have notified to them any alterations or additions to be made in the biographical portion of the work. All communications should be addressed to "The Editors, Colonial Office List, Downing Street, London, S.W." Some account will be found in the work of every Dependency of the British Empire, except those administered by the Secretary of State for India,* and a number of small isolated islands. The Editors are greatly obliged to the different Colonial Governments for the assistance afforded to them in regard to maps. It must, however, be distinctly understood that the maps in this publication are supplied for the purpose of illustrating the Handbook, and are (like the book itself) not official. Special efforts have been made this year to extend and bring up to date the biographies in the Appendix, and the Editors wish to express their acknowledgments to the Colonial Governments and Officers who have supplied them with information on the point. They are especially indebted to Mr. Fred. Johns, of Adelaide, for his assistance in connexion with the biographies of Australian Public Men, not only by allowing the use of his "Notable Australians,” but by advice and suggestions in regard to the enlargement and correction of the present record. The Editors have made arrangements for the issue in a separate form of the biographical portion, with the List of Honours, and other matter of interest in connexion with Colonial appointments. This separate volume, which is entitled "Records of Colonial Officers," can now be obtained from the Publishers, and it is proposed to issue it annually at the same time as the "Colonial Office List.” The biographies will continue to appear in the List as well, and information supplied will be utilized for both publications. It is hoped that Officers throughout the Empire will co-operate with the Editors in their endeavour to form a complete record of Colonial services.
