REDEMPTION BY JESUS CHRIST.

"In him was life; and the life (of him) was the light of men. As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God." - John i. 4, 12.

No one that ever lived has turned so many to righteousness as Jesus of Nazareth. Not to those only who knew him personally, who companied with him during his ministry, who heard his word and witnessed his miracles,

not to those only did he give the power to become the sons of God. But to many, in every age since, he has given this power; and he ever will give it to all who "receive him." In him was life,-true, spiritual, eternal life; and his life was, and is, and shall be more and more the light of men. In him was fully developed the divinity there is in humanity. He was the revelation of the perfect in man. Such a revelation can never be lost. The light of his life cannot be quenched. It may be, as it has been, obscured, but it cannot be put out. It shall scatter the thick clouds that have been or may be gathered about it, and shine upon the world in all its bright
