LETTERS.

SENDING a letter without a name, or signed with a fictitious name, demanding money, venison, or other valuable thing, is felony without clergy, and the same with respect to those who by gift, promise of money, or other reward, promise another to join him or them in such unlawful act. 9 Geo. 1. c. 22. (Black Act.)

Sending any such letter, threatening to kill or murder another, or to burn his house, outhouses, barns, stacks of corn and grain, hay or straw, though no money or venison, or other valuable thing shall be demanded, is felony without clergy. 27 Geo. 3. c. 15.

Persons sending any such letter, threatening to accuse a person of any crime punishable by law with death, transportation, or pillory, or other infamous punishment, with a view to extort or gain money, goods, wares, or merchandises, are offenders against the law and public peace, and shall be fined and imprisoned, or publicly whipped, or be transported as felons for seven years. 30 Geo. 2. c. 24.

The above act is extended to bonds, bills of exchange, promissory notes or other securities for the payment of money, or any warrant or order for the payment of money, or delivery, or transfer of goods or other valuable thing, by 52 Geo. 3. c. 64.
