ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your

own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass. For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into $the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein; he being not á forgetful hearer, but â doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this mans religion is vain. || Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father, is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Paraphrase on the Colleet for the fifth Sunday after Easter. O God, the giver of all good Things, we, thy Sere good desires, and by thy merciful affiftance enable us to vants, bumbly beseech thee to inspire into our Minds perfect them through Jesus Christ.

1. For if any be a bearer of the Word, &c. That is, called a Law of Liberty, because it frees us from the hearing will be of nå fervice to us without doing. bondage of the Law of Moses, from the guilt, and puFor, as a Man who in .a Glass fees spots in his face, nishment, and dominion of Sin; and treats us as Freen but takes no care to wipe them off;fo is he whom the men and Sons, rather than Servants. charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality.one to another without grudging. As every, man hath received the gift; even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God: If any man minister, Let him do it, as of the ability which God giveth, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever.
