AND it came to pass, as Jesus went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go, show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found who returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way, thy faith hath made thee whole.

1 Cor. iii. 16-23.

KNOW ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, Let which temple ye are. no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; and ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.

THE COLLECT.

KEEP, we beseech thee,

O Lord, thy church with thy perpetual mercy; and because the frailty of man without thee cannot but

sider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin; and yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his

fall, keep us ever by thy glory was not arrayed like help from all things hurtful, and lead us to all things profitable to our salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE GOSPEL.

Matt. vi. 24 - 34.

NO man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on; is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air; for they SOW not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment ? Con

one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat or what shall we drink? or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (for after all these things do the Gentiles seek), for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow; for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself; sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Rev. ii. 17.

UNTO the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven

golden candlesticks; I know
thy works, and thy labor,
and thy patience, and how

thou canst not bear those
who are evil; and thou hast
tried those who say they are
apostles, and are not, and
hast found them liars; and
hast borne, and hast pa-
tience, and for my name's
sake hast labored, and hast
not fainted. Nevertheless,
I have somewhat against
thee, because thou hast left
thy first love. Remember,
therefore, from whence thou
art fallen, and repent, and
do the first works; or else I
will come unto thee quickly,
and will remove thy candle-
stick out of his place, ex-
cept thou repent.
thou hast, that thou hatest
the deeds of the Nicolaitans,
which I also hate. He that
hath an ear, let him hear
what the Spirit saith unto
the churches; To him that
overcometh will I give to
eat of the tree of life, which
is in the midst of the para-
dise of God.

Luke vii. 11 — 17.

AND it came to pass the day after, that Jesus went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier, and those who bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he who was dead sat up, and began to speak; and he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all; and they glorified God,

O LORD, we beseech saying, that a great prophet

is risen up among us; and that God hath visited his people. And this rumor of him went forth throughout all Judea, and throughout all the region round about.

Ephes. iii. 13 — 21.

I DESIRE that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height, and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church, by

Christ Jesus, throughout all

ages, world without end. Amen.

THE GOSPEL.

Luke xiv. 1–11.

IT came to pass, as Jesus went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him. And behold, there was a certain man before him, who had the dropsy. And Jesus spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him. and let him go; and

answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass, or an ox, fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? And they could not answer him again to these things. And he put forth a parable to those who were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him, and he who bade thee and him, come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room, that when he who bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher; then shalt thou have worship in the presence of those who sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself, shall be abased; and he who humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

THE EPISTLE.

Ephes. iv. 1-13.

I, THEREFORE, the

prisoner of the Lord, beseech you, that ye walk worthy of the Vocation wherewith ye are called; with all lowliness and meekness, with long suffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore it saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things. And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ; till we all come in the unity of the faith, and
