PREFACE.

It will be necessary to say a few words, by
way of Preface, to the following Manual.
That it has no claim to authorship, must be
evident to those who are conversant with
works which have appeared of late years
on religious subjects, and from which this is,
in some measure, only a compilation. The
object, then, of the writer, in putting the
subject into its present form, (which compre-
hends little besides the heads of lectures upon
revealed religion,) was, in the first instance,
to assist him in the religious instruction which
he is giving to his children ; and, in the next
place, to engage parents in general to follow
