INTERNATIONAL FISHING VESSELS In fog, mist, falling snow, or heavy rainstorms drift-net vessels attached to their nets, and vessels when trawling, dredging, or fishing with any kind of drag net, and vessels line fishing with their lines out, shall, if of 20 tons gross tonnage or upward, respectively, at intervals of not more than 1 minute make a blast, if steam vessels, with the whistle or siren, and if sailing vessels, with the foghorn, each blast to be followed by ringing the bell. Fishing vessels and boats of less than 20 tons gross tonnage shall not be obliged to give the abovementioned signals; but if they do not, they shall make some other efficient sound signal at intervals of not more than 1 minute. Sailing vessels and boats of less than 20 tons gross tonnage shall not be obliged to give the above mentioned signals, but, if they do not, they shall make some other efficient sound signal at intervals of not more than 1 minute. INLAND Art. 15 All rafts or other watercraft, not herein provided for, navigating by handpower, horsepower, or by the current of the river, shall sound a blast of the foghorn, or equivalent signal, at intervals of not more than 1 minute. GREAT LAKES Art. 15f Produce boats, fishing boats, rafts, or other watercraft navigating by hand power or by the current of the river, or anchored or moored in or near the channel or fairway and not in any port, and not otherwise provided for in these rules, shall sound a foghorn, or equivalent signal at intervals of not more than 1 minute. WESTERN RIVERS Rule 14g Coal boats, trading boats, produce boats, canal boats, oyster boats, fishing boats, rafts, or other watercraft navigating any bay, harbor, or river, by handpower, horsepower, sail, or by the current of the river, or anchored or moored in or near the channel or fairway of any bay, harbor, or river, and not in any port, shall sound a foghorn, or equivalent signal, which shall make a sound equal to a steam whistle, at intervals of not more than 2 minutes. Rule 15d STEAM VESSELS UNDER SAIL INTERNATIONAL A steam vessel proceeding under sail only, but having her funnel up, shall carry in daytime, forward, where it can best be seen, one black ball or shape 2 feet in diameter. WESTERN RIVERS Not covered, Art. 14 INTERNATIONAL FISHING VESSELS All vessels or boats fishing with nets or lines or trawls, when under way, shall in daytime indicate their occupation to an approaching vessel by displaying a basket or other efficient signal where it can best be seen. If vessels or boats at anchor have their gear out, they shall, on the approach of other vessels, show the same signal on the side on which those vessels can pass. INLAND Not covered.
