8. Then Job answered the Lord, and said,

4. Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

5. Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

Job xlii. 5. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.

6. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

Ps. ix. 12. He forgetteth not the cry of the humble. P8. x. 17. Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble; thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear.

Ps. cxxxi. 1. Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

2. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

Ps. cxxxviii. 6. Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly.

Pro, xxx. 82. If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

Ecc. vii. 8. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

Isa. lvii. 15. Thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

14. Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the Lord thy God,...

17. And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.

1 Sa. ii. 8. Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth.

2 Sa. xxii. 28. Thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.

2 Ch. xxvi. 16. When he (Uzziah) was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the Lord his God.

Ps. xlix. 11. Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

Ps. lxvi. 7. Let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Ps. lxxiii. 6. Pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. 7. ... They have more than heart could wish.
