THE VALUE OF A GOOD NAME.

Gen. xii. 2. I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.

Jos. vi. 27. The Lord was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.

Ruth ii. 10. Then she (Ruth) fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?

11. And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.

Isa. lvi. 1. Thus saith the Lord, Keep ye judgment, and do justice....

2. Blessed is the man that doeth this, ... that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

5. Unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.

THE INFLUENCE OF GOOD

PERSONS.

Gen. xviii. 26. And the Lord said, if I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

27. And Abraham answered and said,...

28. Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.

29. And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.

31. And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.

32. And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry; and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.

Gen. xxx. 27. And Laban said unto him, (Jacob) I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes,

tarry: for I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake.

Gen. xxxix. 5. And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

1 Ki. xv. 4. For David's sake did the Lord his God give him (Abijam) a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem :

5. Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord.

Pro. xi. 11. By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted.
