us, that it is expedient, for the objects contemplated and intended by the said first-recited Act, and would be conducive to the interests of religion, to exchange the advowson or right of patronage of the said rectory of Weeley, for the advowson or right of patronage of the said rectory of Saint Matthew, Bethnal-green, so that the advowson and right of patronage of the said rectory of Weeley may, after such exchange as aforesaid, be vested in, and exercised by, the said Principal and Scholars; and the advowson and right of patronage of the said rectory of Saint Matthew, Bethnal-green, and the right of patronage and nomination of and to all churches and chapels now or hereafter erected within the said parish of Saint Matthew, Bethnal-green, may, in like manner, be vested in, and exercised by, the the said Charles James Bishop of London, and his successors, Bishops of London:

We, therefore, with the consent of the said Charles James Bishop of London, in testimony whereof he has signed and sealed this scheme, and also of the said Principal and Scholars, in testimony whereof they have hereunto affixed their corporate seal, do humbly recommend and propose, that such exchange of advowsons and right of patronage and nomination, respectively as aforesaid, shall be forthwith made and fully carried into effect.”

And whereas the said scheme has been approved by Her Majesty in Council; now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice of Her said Council, is pleased hereby to ratify the said scheme, and to order and direct that the same, and every part thereof, shall be effectual in law immediately from and after the time when this

Order shall have been duly published in the London Gazette, pursuant to the said Acts; and Her Majesty, by and with the like advice, is pleased hereby to direct, that this Order be forthwith registered by the Registrar of the diocese of London. Wm. L. Bathurst.

WHEREAS the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England have, in pursuance of an Act, passed in the session of Parliament held in the sixth and seventh years of the reign of His late Majesty King William the Fourth, intituled "An Act for carrying into effect the reports of the "Commissioners appointed to consider the state "of the Established Church in England and "Wales, with reference to ecclesiastical duties ❝and revenues, so far as they relate to episcopal dioceses, revenues, and patronage;" and of an Act, passed in the session of Parliament held in the third and fourth years of Her Majesty's reign, intituled "An Act to carry into effect, with "certain modifications, the fourth report of the "Commissioners of Ecclesiastical Duties and "Revenues;" and of another Act, pased in the session of Parliament held in the fifth and sixth years of Her Majesty's reign, intituled "An Act "to alter and amend the laws relating to ecclesi"astical houses of residence," duly prepared and

laid before Her Majesty in Council a scheme, bearing date the twenty-eighth day of November one thousand eight hundred and forty-three, in the words and figures following, that is to say:

"We, the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England, in pursuance of an Act, passed in the session of Parliament held in the sixth and seventh years of the reign of His late Majesty King William the Fourth, intituled "An Act for carrying into "effect the reports of the Commissioners ap"pointed to consider the state of the Established "Church in England and Wales, with reference "to ecclesiastical duties and revenues, so far as "they relate to episcopal dioceses, revenues, and patronage ;" and of an Act, passed in the session of Parliament held in the third and fourth years of your Majesty's reign, intituled "An Act "to carry into effect, with certain modifications, "the fourth report of the Commissioners of "Ecclesiastical Duties and Revenues;" and of another Act, passed in the session of Parliament held in the fifth and sixth years of your Majesty's reign, intituled "An Act to alter and amend the law relating to ecclesiastical houses of residence," have prepared, and now humbly lay before your Majesty in Council, the following scheme, for affording compensation to the Bishop of Bangor for his immediate surrender of a benefice with cure of souls, accustomably held by the Bishops of Bangor as part of the revenues of the see of Bangor.

"Whereas by the first-recited Act it is enacted, that, after the passing thereof, no ecclesiastical dignity, office, or benefice shall be held in commendam by any bishop, unless he shall so hold the same at the time of passing thereof, and that every commendam thereafter granted, whether to retain or to receive, and whether temporary or perpetual, shall be absolutely void to all intents and purposes:

"And whereas by the secondly-recited Act it is enacted, that, by the authority thereinafter provided, and for the purpose of fully carrying into effect any of the provisions of the Act now in recital, or of the said first-recited Act, any sum of money which shall have been invested in the public funds, or in other security or securities, in trust, for any ecclesiastical body corporate, aggregate or sole, may, upon an application in writing to us, under the hand and seal of such body corporate, be directed to be sold, and the same shall be sold accordingly; and the produce of such sale shall be applied to such purpose, and in such manner, as shall appear most conducive to the permanent benefit of such body corporate:

"And whereas by the thirdly-recited Act, it is declared and enacted, that the provisions of the said secondly-recited Act, relating to the sale and application of any sum of money invested, in trust, for any ecclesiastical body corporate, do and shall include and apply to all moneys, and securities for money, and to all stock in the Government funds, or elsewhere, standing in the name of the Accountant General of the Court of Chancery, or in the name or names of any other public officer, or of any individual or individuals, for or to the credit, or for the benefit of, or in trust, for any bishop, whether for the purpose of being laid out in land, or otherwise:

"And whereas by an Act, passed in the session of Parliament held in the seventh and eighth years. of the reign of His late Majesty King George the Fourth, intituled "An Act for carrying into. "effect an agreement for sale of certain messuages66 or tenements, and parcels of ground in the parish "of Saint Andrew, Holborn, in the county of Mid"dlesex, part of the possessions of the see of "Bangor, and for applying the money arising

"therefrom in manner therein mentioned," it was enacted, that it should be lawful for the then Bishop of Bangor, and his successors, to join with the parties therein respectively named and described, in carrying into effect a certain agreement, therein recited, for the sale of the several messuages or tenements, hereditaments, and premises, in the same Act also particularly described, and the estates, terms, and interests of the respective lessees therein; and that the share of the Bishop of Bangor of the purchase money agreed upon for the said messuages or tenements, hereditaments, and premises, amounting to the sum of six thousand two hundred and twelve pounds ten shillings, should be paid into the Bank of England, in the name and with the privity of the Accountant General of the High Court of Chancery, to be placed to his account there, exparte "the Bishop "of Bangor," and to be, from time to time, laid out by him in the purchase of Navy or Victualling Bills, or Exchequer Bills; and it was further enacted, that it should be lawful for the Court of Chancery, upon a petition to be presented to that Court by the said Bishop, or his successors, to direct the said Accountant General to apply the whole or any part of the money so directed to be paid into the Bank, and the interest arising thereon, for the purchase of a freehold messuage or mansion-house for the residence of the Bishop of Bangor for the time being, to be situate in the city of London, or the suburbs thereof, or in the city and liberties of Westminster, or the suburbs thereof:

"And whereas the sale of the said several messuages or tenements, hereditaments, and premises, accordingly took place, and the said sum of six thousand two hundred and twelve pounds ten shillings was thereupon paid into the Bank of
