In addition to the Egyptian piastre coinage, British and French silver and copper are in general circulation in Port Said, and the British sovereign and half-sovereign are almost the only gold coins in use. POPULATION and Industries of the Chief Towns in the Consular District. Languages. The languages generally spoken at Port Said are English, French, Italian, Greek, Arabic and Maltese. French and English are of most importance for commercial correspondence, and most Government officials speak one or both of these languages. |
