The Editor of the following plain and practical Sermons had originally intended, in committing them to the press, to have afforded them the protection of the Author's name, conscious that that name would bave carried with it great weight amongst those to whom he was known, and by many of whom the Editor is persuaded, he is still remembered with affection and gratitude. He is also fully confident that the Sermons, delivered as they were to a Country Congregation, would not, when thus considered, be found to disgrace the Author's memory. He has, however, been restrained from making the Author's name public, by the objections of some of his surviving relatives, from reasons, which, however insufficient they may appear to his own mind, the Editor never. theless is bound to respect.
