Bishop's Address.

My Brethren, the Clergy and Laity of the Convention :

I am required to present a record of my official acts during the past Conventional year, and this duty I now proceed to discharge, with as much brevity as the nature of such a record will admit.

Soon after the adjournment of the last Convention, I sought restoration of seriously impaired health, by absence from the Diocese, exemption from all official cares, and the sanitary effect of certain mineral waters, with subsequent sea bathing. Through the Divine blessing, these means were made instrumental to the entire restoration of my general health, and to the alleviation, in a considerable degree, of my special malady. My time was spent in portions of Canada, and in the States of Maine, Connecticut, and New York; during which I officiated once nearly every Sunday, and several times twice; and on two occasions, once in Canada and once in the State of New York, administered the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. I also celebrated a marriage in Trinity Chapel, city of New York.

I returned to the Diocese on the 22d of September, and the following day-the 16th Sunday after Trinity-I read prayers and preached in the morning in Christ Church, Indianapolis, and in the same Church, preached again on the 17th Sunday after Trinity.

On the 7th of October-18th Sunday after Trinity-I commenced the visitation of the Diocese at Trinity Church, Logansport; preached twice, administered the Lord's Supper, and confirmed six persons.

October 8-In company with the Rev. Mr. High, I visited the (vacant) Parish of St. James' Church, Peru; preached, and baptized five persons.

October 14-19th Sunday after Trinity-I preached twice in St. John's Church, Lafayette, and confirmed (special) two

persons.

October 15-I read prayers and preached in St. Mary's Church, Delphi.

October 17-I met the Clergy of Northern and Eastern Indiana in Convocation in St. John's Church, Lafayette. At the opening services, I held an ordination, and admitted the Rev. Nathaniel R. High, Deacon, Minister of Trinity Church, Logansport, and St. Mary's Church, Delphi, to the Holy Order of Priests. On this occasion, morning prayer was read by the Rev. C. A. Foster, M. D.. assisted by the Rev. George T. Dougherty, M. D.; the Sermon was preached by the Rev. Edward P. Wright; the candidate was presented by the Rev. Mr. Russ and the Rev. Dr Foster; and the Lord's Supper administered by myself, assisted by the presenting Presbyters.

October 18-Festival of St. Luke-At morning prayer, I read the Ante-Communion service, and, at evening prayer, I closed the Convocation with an address to the Clergy, appropriate prayers, and the benediction.

October 21—20th Sunday after Trinity-I preached twice in St. John's Church, Crawfordsville.

October 26-I read prayers and preached at Greencastle, a Missionary station.

October 28-21st Sunday after Trinity-I preached twice in St. Stephen's Church, Terre Haute.

October 31-I met the Clergy of Central and Southern Indiana, in Convocation, in St. James' Church, Vincennes, and, at the opening services, preached the Sermon.

November 1-Festival of All Saints-I administered the

Lord's Supper to the Clergy assembled, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Runcie and the Rev. Dr. Coleman, of the Diocese. of Missouri, who had favored us with his presence on this occasion. In the evening, I closed the Convocation, as * usual, with an address to the Clergy, appropriate prayers, and the benediction.

November 2-Accompanied by the Rev. Mr. Carter, I visited the Parish of Grace Church, Sullivan, and preached. It is a day of very small things in this place at present. But there is a nucleus of a Church, which I trust may, in time, grow into something more. At any rate, the services of the Church will be continued, occasionally, by the Missionary at Worthington and myself.

November 3d-I proceeded to the (then vacant) Parish of St. Matthew's Church, Worthington, where, on the following day-22d Sunday after Trinity-I read prayers and preached twice, administered the Lord's Supper, and baptized an infant. I read prayers, and preached also, on the evening of the two following days, and on the latter occasion baptized three children. The Rev. Humphrey Hollis, from the Diocese of Ohio, has since accepted the pastoral charge of the Parish, and is now settled there as its Rector, and Missionary at places in the vicinity.

November 11-23d Sunday after Trinity-I preached twice in St. Paul's Church, Richmond, aud the following day in St. Stephen's Church, Hillsboro, which is served every other Sunday, in the afternoon, by the Rector of St. Paul's Church, as Missionary.

November 13-Accompanied by the Rev. Mr. Wakefield, I visited Anderson Town, preached, and baptized an adult and an infant; and, the following day, went to Muncie Town, where I also preached. There are a few church people in both these places, and several others favorably disposed toward the Church, and desirous of her services. If the enterprise is followed up, as I trust it will be, there is an encouraging prospect of establishing a Parish of our communion in each of these places. An effort will be made during the coming summer, if a suitable Missionary can be

obtained. I had appointed to visit both places in January, but was prevented by a severe attack of my complaint, neuralgia, which confined me to the house for several days.

November 16-I read prayers and preached at Cambridge City.

November 18-24th Sunday after Trinity-I preached twice, and confirmed two persons, in Trinity Church, Connersville.

November 25-25th Sunday after Trinity-I preached twice in Christ Church, Madison, and confirmed seven per

sons.

November 27-I preached twice, administered the Lord's Supper, and baptized three children, in the (vacant) Parish of St. Paul's Church, Jeffersonville.

November 28-I preached again in Christ Church, Madison, and also on the following day, being the day of Thanksgiving appointed by the Governor of the State.

December 1-I baptized two adults in St. Luke's Church, Cannelton, and the following day-the 1st Sunday in Ad vent-preached twice, administered the Lord's Supper, and confirmed ten persons. The Rev. Mr. Githins has taken the pastoral charge of this Parish, and is laboring with very encouraging success.

December 6-Accompanied by the Rev. Mr. Runcie, I visited Mount Vernon, preached, and baptized an adult, A Parish was organized here four years ago, by the name of St. John's Church, but the papers required for its admission into union with the Convention were neglected to be sent by the Missionary then in charge. They will be presented at our present meeting, and admission into union asked for, which I trust will be granted. The Rev. Dr. Foster, during his residence there as a Teacher, officiated every Lord's Day, and was instrumental in reviving the cause of the Church in that county town. A liberal subscription has been raised for the support of a Clergyman, but two efforts I have made to obtain a Missionary, in connection with New Harmony, have failed. The Rev. Wm.

S. Rowe, Deacon, has accepted the appointment of Missionary, and will enter on his duties immediately.

December 7-I preached in St. Stephen's Church, New Harmony; and, on the 2d Sunday in Advent, in the same Church, I preached twice, administered the Lord's Supper, baptized three adults and ten children, and confirmed two persons.

December 10--I preached again at Mount Vernon, and confirmed one person.

December 12-I preached in St. Paul's Church, Evans

ville.

December 13-I preached in Trinity Church, Vanderburgh county. This Parish is served one Sunday in each month by the Rev. Mr. Carter, of Vincennes, as Missionary. The Vestry have erected a neat and commodious parsonage, with two acres of ground attached, forming a pleasant residence for a Clergyman; and have liquidated a small debt besides-all their indebtedness. They are now prepared to support a Clergyman, and are desirous to obtain a resident Pastor immediately.

December 16-3d Sunday in Advent--I preached twice in St. Paul's Church, Evansville, and confirmed (special) one person.

December 25-Christmas Day-I administered the Lord's Supper in Christ Church, Indianapolis; on the Sunday after Christmas, preached twice in the same Church; and, on the Festival of the Circumcision, read prayers.

January 6-Festival of the Epiphany--I read prayers and preached twice, and administered the Lord's Supper in the (vacant) Parish of Trinity Church, Lawrenceburgh.

January 13-1st Sunday after Epiphany-I preached twice in St. John's Church, St. Louis, Missouri.

January 20-2d Sunday after Epiphany--I preached twice, and confirmed seventeen persons, in Christ Church, Indianapolis.

From this time until the 9th of February, I was prevented from officiating by a return of my malady, and was obliged to relinquish appointments for two Sundays.
