Journal of the Convention.

INDIANAPOLIS, June 5th, 1861.

This being the time and place appointed, the TwentyFourth Annual Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Indiana met in Christ Church at 10 o'clock A. M.

Morning Prayer was read by the Rev. J. B. Wakefield, assisted by the Rev. J. W. Stewart.

The Ante-Communion Service was read by the Rt. Rev. George Upfold, D. D., LL. D., the Bishop of the Diocese, assisted by the Rev. Horace Stringfellow, Jr.

The Bishop delivered his charge to the Clergy.

The Holy Communion was administered by the Bishop, assisted in the distribution of the elements to the Laity by the Rev. Horace Stringfellow, Jr., and the Rev. J. B. Wakefield.

The Bishop then called the Convention to order. The Secretary of the Convention being absent, the Bishop appointed the Rev. L. W. Russ Secretary pro tem.

The names of the Clergy entitled to seats in the Convention being called, the following answered and took their seats, viz.:

The Bishop declared the Convention opened and ready for business, and announced the following

STANDING COMMITTEES.

On Credentials-Rev. Messrs. WAKEFIELD, CARTER, and Mr. FALLEY.

On Accounts-Rev. Mr. STEWART and Messrs. PAYNE and ANDREWS.

On Unfinished Business-Rev. Messrs. BIRDSALL, CHARLOT, and Mr. DALE.
On Admission of New Parishes-Rev. Messrs. WRIGHT, RUNCIE, and Mr. SID-

DALL.

On Canons-Rev. Messrs. FOSTER and HIGH, and Mr. STOTSENBURG.

The first business in order being the election of Secretary, the Convention proceeded to ballot, and the Rev. C. A. Foster, having received a majority of the votes cast, was declared duly elected.

The Rev. J. B. Wakefield gave notice that he would introduce a new Canon on differences between ministers and their parishes.

The Convention adjourned to 4 o'clock P. M.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

WEDNESDAY, 4 o'clock P. M.

The Convention met, and was called to order by the Bishop.

The Rev. C. A. Foster, M. D., having objected to serve as Secretary-on motion, he was excused; and ballotting being dispensed with, the Rev. Elias Birdsall was elected.
