E MANUFACTURE the largest line of Compensating Binnacles in this country. Making them in our own shops, with close attention to all details, we have been able to place on the market binnacles which for durability, finish, accuracy of compensation, elegance of design and general excellence of construction, cannot be excelled, while as manufacturers, by cutting out the middleman's profit, we sell them at the lowest prices possible. The bodies are made of well-seasoned mahogany or teak, in the most substantial manner-strongly built, and well finished-the brass heads, lamps, etc., are made of good, strong brass, heavy enough to stand the wear and tear on board ship; our aim not being to see how cheap an article we can produce, but how good a one for a moderate price. Our binnacles are made with three different models of adjustment, as follows: "Model A": This is the Hand patented system of adjustment, which is controlled by us. Inside the binnacle are three threaded brass rods, one on each side and one in front; on the rods travel the carriers holding the magnets. The magnets are each enclosed in a sealed brass tube; when ready to adjust the magnets are placed in the carriers and securely fastened in place by a clamp; the carriers containing the magnets are then moved to the proper position to correct the compass by turning a small crank key on the outside of the binnacle, which by means of gearing revolves the threaded rods, thus raising or lowering the magnets to any desired position. This system allows of the most perfect adjustment, as the position of the magnets can be altered to the smallest fraction of an inch. The equipment of binnacle includes fore and aft magnets, thwart-ship magnets, heeling magnet, flinders bar and quadrantal globes. "Model B": In this model the magnets are placed in carriers which are moved up and down by hand inside the binnacle, and secured in the desired position by a lock screw. The equipment includes fore and aft magnets, thwart-ship magnets, heeling magnets, flinders bar and quadrantal globes. "Model C": In this model racks are provided inside the binnacle, in which the magnets are placed as desired, and secured in position by means of a binding rod which locks them in place. Equipment includes fore and aft magnets, thwart-ship magnets, heeling magnet, and quadrantal globes. |
