SATURDAY EVENING.

Let us Pray.

O GOD, our refuge and strength, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom, both now and ever vouchsafe to hear us, and let thy mercy be showed upon us, through Jesus Christ thy Son our Saviour.

O heavenly Father, we humbly acknowledge our sins before thee we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done, and there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Cast us not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from us. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults; restore thou them that are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesu our Lord. Give us the comfort of thy help again, and stablish us with thy free Spirit. And grant, O most merciful Father, for Jesus Christ's sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy name. Give us thy heavenly grace, that we may repent us truly for our sins past, have a lively

and steadfast faith in Christ our Saviour, amend our lives, and be in perfect charity with all men.

Renew in us, most loving Father, whatsoever hath been decayed by the fraud and malice of the devil, or by our own carnal will and frailness; continue us in the unity of the Church, raise us from the death of sin unto the life of righteousness; and vouchsafe, we beseech thee, to direct, sanctify, and govern, both our hearts and bodies in the ways of thy laws, and in the works of thy commandments; that, when we shall depart this life, we may rest in our Lord Jesus Christ, and that, at the general resurrection in the last day, we may be found acceptable in thy sight, and receive that blessing which thy well-beloved Son shall then pronounce to all that love and fear thee.

Grant, we beseech thee, to all our relations, friends, and neighbours, that they may steadfastly walk in the way that leadeth to eternal life, and extend thine accustomed goodness to all that are in affliction.

Have mercy, O Lord, upon the whole Church ; rule the heart of thy servant William, our King and Governor. And, O God, the giver of all good gifts, who, of thy divine providence, hast appointed divers orders in thy Church, give thy grace, we humbly beseech thee, to all those who have been called to

any office and administration in the same, and so replenish them with the truth of thy doctrine, and endue them with innocency of life, that they may faithfully serve before thee, to the glory of thy great name, and the benefit of thy Church. Send down thy heavenly blessing especially to the Bishops and Pastors of that part of it to which we belong; that they may be clothed with righteousness; and that thy word spoken by their mouths may have such success, that it may never be spoken in vain. Grant also that we may have grace to hear and receive what they shall deliver out of thy most holy word, or agreeable to the same, as the means of our salvation; and that being not, like children, carried away with every blast of vain doctrine, we may be established in the faith of thy holy Gospel, so that in all our words and deeds we may seek thy glory and the increase of thy kingdom.

We bless and glorify thy name, O gracious God, whose mercy is over all thy works, for all thy mercies to us from the beginning of our lives to this day; but above all, for the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech thee, make us truly sensible of thy mercy, and give us hearts alway ready to express our thankfulness, not only by words, but also by our lives, in being more obe

dient to thy holy commandments. Continue, we pray thee, thy goodness to us, that we, whom thou hast so blessed, may serve thee in holiness and , righteousness all the days of our life; granting us in this world the knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting.

These things, O heavenly Father, we beg for ourselves and all mankind, humbly beseeching thee, who seest that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves, to keep us this night and always both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
