For at his word, the stormy wind ariseth: which lifteth up the waves thereof.

They are carried up to the heaven, and down again to the deep; their soul melteth away because of the trouble.

So when they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, he delivereth them out of their distress.

For he maketh the storm to cease, so that the waves thereof are still.

Then are they glad, because they are at rest; and so he bringeth them unto the haven where they would be.

O that men would therefore praise the Lord for his goodness; and declare the wonders that he doeth for the children of men!

That they would exalt him also in the congregation of the people; and praise him in the seat of

Thou hast showed us terrible things, and wonders in the deep, that we might see how powerful and gracious a God thou art; how able and ready to help those who trust in thee. Thou hast showed us how both winds and seas obey thy command; that we may learn even from them hereafter to obey thy voice, and to do thy will. We therefore bless and glorify thy name, for this thy mercy, in saving us when we were ready to perish. And we beseech thee, make us as truly sensible now of thy mercy, as we were then of the danger; and give us hearts always ready to express our thankfulness, not only by words, but also by our live, in being more obedient to thy holy commandments. O BE joyful in the Lord, all ye people; serve the Lord with gladness, and come before his presence with a song

Be ye sure that the Lord he is God; it is he who hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

>Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and speak good of his name.

For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endureth from generation to generation.

THE INTRODUCTORY PRAYER.

O LORD God Almighty, before whom all creatures bow, the fountain of life and the father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants come before thee in humble acknowledgment of thine eternal power and majesty. Thou art the only living and true God; thy kingdom ruleth over all, and thy goodness is without bounds. Assist us to worship thee in spirit and in truth; may we celebrate thy perfections and speak of thy wonderful works with give thanks unto thee, and sing thy praises with joy; humble ourselves before thee with sincere and contrite hearts; and pray unto

reverence;

thee under a just sense of our dependence on thy providence, and with fervent charity to all mankind. Graciously accept these our devotions, which we offer in the name and as disciples of Jesus Christ our Lord, by whom thou hast encouraged us to come with confidence to the throne of thy grace. People. May the words of our mouths, and the meditations of our hearts, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, our strength and our redeemer.

Then shall be recited the following Anthem, or instead of it the Psalms appointed for the day.

Min. WE praise thee, O God; we worship thee, the most glorious and the best of beings; the creator and governor of all things, visible and invisible.

Peo. O Lord God, thou art greatly to be praised; and to be had in reverence by all who draw nigh unto

thee.

Min. We acknowledge thee, the one, living, and

true God; God in heaven above, and earth beneath, and throughout all worlds; there is none beside thee.

Peo. Unto us there is but one God; to whom be glory for ever.

Min. Thou alone art from everlasting, without beginning of days, or end of years; thou livest and reignest for ever and ever.

Peo. We magnify thee, the high and lofty One, who inhabitest eternity.

Min. Thou art a spiritual and incorruptible being; who dwellest in light inaccessible, and full of glory; whom no mortal eye hath seen, or can see.

Peo. We would worship thee, who art a spirit, in spirit and in truth.

Min. Infinite art thou, O God; thou dwellest not in temples made with hands; the universe is thy temple, thou art present at all times in every part of thy dominion.

Peo. In thee we live, and move, and have our being.

Min. Thine is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the majesty; all things in heaven and earth are thine; thine is the kingdom, and thou art

Min. Thou art perfect in wisdom, wonderful in counsel, and excellent in all thy works.

Peo. To the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever.

Min. Holy art thou, O God; thou art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity; thy countenance regardeth the upright.

Peo. We reverence thy name; for thou art holy. Min. Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy truth reacheth to the heavens ; justice judgment are the everlasting foundations of thy

and

Peo. Just and true are all thy ways, O thou King of saints.

Min. Thou art good, and thou doest good continually; all thy works bear testimony to thy rich and overflowing bounty; every good, and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from thee, the Father of all, Peo. O Lord, thy good

ness is above all praise; universal as thy works, and endless as eternity.

Min. All glory and honour, blessing and praise, might, majesty, and dominion be unto God for ever. Amen.

Then may follow a Voluntary on the Organ; after which the FIRST LESSON is to be read out of the Old Testament; and then the Service is to proceed with the following Thanksgivings.

Minister.

LET us now offer up unto God our sincere and humble thanksgivings, for his great goodness to us,

and to all mankind.

Let us meditate upon his mercies with delight;

and let the words of our mouths, and the actions of our lives, show forth his praise.

People.

Bless the Lord, O our souls, and forget not all his benefits.

Minister.

We thank thee, O Father,

Lord of heaven and earth, for the innumerable mercies which thou hast bestowed upon us. We acknowledge, with all gratitude and joy, the gift of life; thine almighty voice hath called us into being; and thy hand hath placed us in this part of thy glorious works.

We thank thee for the wise and useful frame of our bodies; and for the nobler powers of our minds; by which we are enabled to contemplate the beauty of thy works, and the wonderful order of thy providence; and to attain the knowledge and love of thee, the creator of the world, and the author of all good.

We thank thee, O ever bountiful and most gracious God, for the continual preservation of our lives; our food and raiment are the daily gifts of thy bounty; thou givest us health and fruitful seasons, and fillest our hearts with joy and gladness.

People.

Blessed be the Lord for his goodness and for his wonderful works to the children of men.

Minister.

We thank thee, O heavenly Father, that thy goodness to mankind is not confined to the present world, but that thou hast awakened in us the glorious hope of immortality, and by the various means of thy providence and grace, art training us up for a heavenly and everlasting life.

Above all we praise and magnify thee, for the rich display of thy goodness, in the manifestation of thy Son Jesus Christ, whom thou hast raised up to bless mankind, to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of sin, to the worship and obedience of thee, the true God.

We acknowledge with the highest gratitude, the perfect doctrine of our blessed Saviour; that by him thou hast given us thy heavenly truth, to enlighten our minds, to sanctify our hearts, and guide our feet in the way of peace; and that in his life thou hast set before us an example of the most exalted goodness, to animate our endeavors, and to encour
