Sivu 671 - State, Territory, or district of the United States, or between a place in one State, Territory, or district of the United States and a place in any other State, Territory, or district thereof.
Sivu 677 - ... blasting powders, fulminate of mercury or of other metals, coloured fires, and every other substance, whether similar to those above mentioned or not, used or manufactured with a view to produce a practical effect by explosion or a pyrotechnic effect ; and (2.) Includes fog-signals, fireworks, fuzes, rockets, percussion caps, detonators, cartridges, ammunition of all descriptions, and every adaptation or preparation of an explosive as above defined.
Sivu 346 - As a unit of resistance, the international ohm, which is based upon the ohm equal to 109 units of resistance of the CGS system of electro-magnetic units, and is represented by the resistance offered to an unvarying electric current by a column of mercury at the temperature of melting ice 14-4521 grammes in mass, of a constant cross-sectional area and of the length of 106-3 cm.
Sivu 672 - The two preceding sections shall not be so construed as to prevent any State, Territory, district, city, or town within the United States from regulating or from prohibiting the traffic in or transportation of those substances, between persons or places lying or being within their respective territorial limits, or from prohibiting the introduction thereof into such limits, for sale, use, or consumption therein.
Sivu 346 - As a unit of quantity, the international coulomb, which is the quantity of electricity transferred by a current of one international ampere in one second. As a unit of capacity, the international farad, which is the capacity of a condenser charged to a potential of one international volt by one international coulomb of electricity.
Sivu 346 - The unit of current shall be what is known as the international ampere, which is one-tenth of the unit of current of the centimeter gram-second system of electro-magnetic units, and is the practical equivalent of. the unvarying current, which, when passed through a solution of nitrate of silver in water in accordance with standard specifications, deposits silver at the rate of one thousand one hundred and eighteen millionths of a gram per second.
Sivu 677 - nitro-compound " means any chemical compound possessed of explosive properties, or capable of combining with metals to form an explosive compound, which is produced by the chemical action of nitric acid (whether mixed or not with sulphuric acid) or of a nitrate mixed with sulphuric acid upon any carbonaceous substance, whether such compound is mechanically mixed with other substances or not.
Sivu 91 - The work is naturally divided into three sections: — 1. The systematic investigation of the waters of the United States and the biological and physical problems which they present. The scientific studies of the Commission are based upon a liberal and philosophical interpretation of the law. In making his original plans the Commissioner insisted that to study only the food-fishes would be of little importance, and that useful conclusions must needs rest upon a broad foundation of investigations...
Sivu 90 - The Commissioner may take or cause to be taken at all times in the waters of the seacoast of the United States where the tide ebbs and flows, and also in the waters of the lakes, such fish or specimens thereof as may in his judgment, from time to time, be needful or proper for the conduct of his duties, any law, custom, or usage of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.
Sivu 346 - As a unit of electro-motive force, the international volt, " which is the electro-motive force that, steadily applied to a " conductor whose resistance is one international ohm, will '• produce a current of one international ampere...
