assistant to all the endeavours and designs of thy weak and unworthy servant. I am not able of myself to do or think any thing that is good or wellpleasing in thy sight. O let thy Holy Spirit continually guard me against those numerous temptations which so strongly encounter me. Fix my incon

stant mind, that I may not be led away with the errors of the wicked, and fall from my own stedfastness, but that I may persevere in good works unto the end. Moderate my affections and desires, and confine them only to such objects as are well pleasing in thy sight. Let thy will be the sole guide and measure of mine, that all my hopes and wishes may centre in thee alone, and nothing may ever appear desirable to me, in comparison with a pure heart, and peaceful conscience. Teach me thy way, O Lord, and I will walk in thy truth: O knit my heart unto thee, that I may fear thy name. Make me to love thee (as I ought) above all things, and let the interest of thy honour and glory be always dearer to me than gold or silver, or any other temporal advantage; for thou, Ŏ Lord, art my portion, thou art my only rest,

in thee alone is fulness of joy and true satisfaction,. O grant me this blessed retreat, this happy security, and then I shall find rest unto my soul, both here and hereafter. Amen.

Prayer on a Review of our past Life. O THOU, who hast been pleased, notwithstanding all our sins, hitherto to preserve us, vouchsafe us thy help during the remainder of our earthly course. We pray thee to be with us, to direct and to strengthen us. Should any false light appear, suffer us not to follow it. Thus, O Lord, be thou our light and our strength, that we may finish our course well, that we may keep the faith, and that we may have a well-grounded hope of receiving a crown of righteousness, when CHRIST the Lord shall appear.

All power is in thine hands; be pleased to make all things to work together for our good. Let our souls prosper by every thing which happens to us. Whether our day be calm or stormy, bright or dark, do thou make us to grow in grace, to increase in faith, in holiness, and in charity.

Hear these our prayers, to thee the Lord of all, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Advocate. Amen.

A Prayer for Spiritual Improvement. O LORD, may we not only read and hear thy word, but seriously consider the things which it declares to us. Let us not only call ourselves Christians, but be Christians indeed, fleeing to Christ as our refuge, leaning on him as our support, living upon him daily as the bread of life! May we glory in his cross, and by its means may the world be crucified to us, and we to the world.

Thus, O Lord of life, quicken us, that our religion may not be a body without spirit. May we not only have u name to hire, but be indeed alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. For THY WORD assureth us, that although we may understand all mysteries, and all knowledge, and speak with the tongues of men, or even of angels, if we have not charity, these gifts, whatever pride we may take in them, will profit us nothing. We earnestly beseech thee, therefore, to

add the power of thy grace to the light of thy truth, that we may grow in faith and love, and being renewed by thy Holy Spirit from day to day, we may become more and more meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. We ask these blessings, in the name, and through the mediation of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Success of the Gospel in the World.

BE pleased, O Lord! to grant that we may feel in our souls the working of that mighty power which was wrought in Christ when he was raised from the dead. May we be raised from a death in sin, unto a life of righteousness.

We pray, O Lord, that Christ may be glorified in the success of his holy word. Strengthen those who are to publish thy Gospel, that they may give their testimony with great power; may great grace

be upon them, and upon all their hearers! Grant that many may be enlightened by the word of truth, and enabled by thy grace to withdraw their affections from

the deceiving things that are set on earth, and set them on those blessed things that are above!

Let us, from day to day, be kept living like the blessed expectants of a better state, waiting with humble and joyful hope for that glorious period when our REDEEMER shall appear unto our complete salvation; when the last storm shall blow on the church; when the last dart shall be thrown by the wicked one, and the last enemy shall be destroyed.

Let us be continually growing in a meetness for this blessed state, through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

MORNING PRAYER.

PONDER my words, O Lord; consider my meditation: my voice shalt thou hear betimes, O Lord; early in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up, Psalm v. 1. 3. Almighty God, who dwelling in the highest Heavens, yet vouchsafest to regard the lowest creature here upon earth, I humbly adore thy sacred majesty; and with all
