We read in Gospel-days that Law;

As worldly treasure is.
5. This caus'd thy Incarnation,
This brought thee down to me!
Thy Thirst for my falvation

Contriv'd my Liberty!

O Love beyond all measure,

Wherewith thou doft embrace Mankind, 'midft all that preffure

Which, fince the Fall, takes place. 6. Let this confideration

Heal up your wounds within,
Ye Sons of defolation,

That feel the fmarts of Sin!
Be not caft down, your Helper

Uncall'd he comes with Gladness,
To fave you from the Fall,

And cure all Griefs and fadness

He knows ye're clogg'd withal.
8. Be not caft down nor frighted
At fin, tho' ne'er fo great;
No! Jefus is delighted
The greatest to remit.
He comes, repenting Sinners
With life and love to crown;
And make them happy winners
Of glory like his own.

Then fear not ye the clamour
Of Satan and his clan :
The Word, his pow'rful hammer,
Destroys their wicked plan.
He comes, the King of glory,
Whofe Nod confounds their hoft;
He opes a path before ye,

And baffles all their boast.

On all his enemies :
But children of Repentance

Shall meet with love and peace.
Come, Prince of grace and wonder!
Fetch-thy Beloved home;
Reveal thy glories yonder;

1. TESUS, Source of Gladness,

Saviour Chrift, my Lamb and Priest! Heaven and earth without thy treafure

Can afford no pleasure. 2. Under thy Protection Hell and Sin's injection

Cannot hurt my heart;
Storms may roar and thunder,
Satan feek to plunder,
Vain is all his art!

Sword, death, hell and devil,

Thy friendly Countenance ! My heart for to enliven

With that moft powerful glance : Without thee to be living,

Were to my heart great pain;
But 'fore thee to be moving,
Is Health, and joy, and gain.
4. O Well of life! I fervent

Pant for thee, sweetest Rest! Thou faithful Church's Servant, Think'st thou fome Trouble beft For me? I'll gladly fuffer,

And no pain fhall me move (Tho' frightful it fhould offer) From thy most tender love. 5 My Heart remains giv'n over To thee perpetually, To die, to live; and rather,

O Fair one! I'd with thee
In hotteft fire be sweating,

Than want thy Company,
And be in Paradife fitting
With pain and infamy.
6. Earth's glory to inherit,
I'm not at all inclin'd;

For

For heavenly is my Spirit,

And my whole heart and mind: Where Chrift himself discloses,

There I do long to be;
And where he buildeth Houses,
That is the Place for me.
7. Now Jefu, love's pure Fire,

Come fetch me to thee home:
To thy Breast I aspire,

My foul's Adornment! come. Rich I fhall be, and chearful,

When once thro' thy free grace, I, fnatch'd from all that's hurtful, Have gain'd my heav'nly Place.

Both hand and foot in Hell; The Bands and Scourge's tearing, Which, thou, myGod! wert bearing, My foul, my foul deferv'd to feel. 6. I'll be 'mongst the beholders, How thou on thy own Shoulders Bear'ft my prodigious load : Thou tak'ft the Curfe-infliction, Giv'ft for it Benediction;

My Cordial is thy Pains and rod. 7. As Surety thou prefenteft Thyfelf, to fmart confenteft For me in Debt all o'er ; A crown of Thorns thou wearest, The scorn and pain thou beareft

With Patience never known before. 8. Into Death's jaws thou leaping, Provid't for my efcaping,

That I this Hurt mayn't prove; My Death thou for me carry'ft, And then with thyself bury' ft,

O most unheard-of fire of Love! 9. Thro' all life's hours and stations, I'm under Obligations,

The highest, to thee, Lamb!
As far as they are able,
Shall Soul and Body, ftable,

Devote their service to thy Name.
10. To thee, while here I'm living,
I have nought worth the giving:
Yet one thing fhall not fail;
Thy Death and Paffion ever,
Till foul and body fever,

Shall in my Heart's recefs prevail. 11. Its fresh Representation Shall ftir my admiration,

Where'er I turn or move;
I'll take it for my mirrour
Of Innocence, for terror

To guile, but Seal of Truth and
Love.
