9. In Converse willing to oblige;
Invincible when Storms befiege,
And fteddy in my step;
Touching one point, the Bundle of
life,

A fimple child, that from all ftrife
Will only ftill behind thee creep.
10. A check to Satan and his band;
A cov'ring to that Place or land

Where thou ordain'ft m' abode ;
A joy above to Angels good,
To thy Choirs here like chearing
food;

To Chriftians falfe a heavy load.
11. In Pilgrim's life fincere of mind;
To the bleft Unction quite refign'd;
In Flesh and Soul content;
To inward, outward foundness rais'd,
In all my fenfes exercis'd,

While gladnefs-oil doth me anoint. 12. Ye devils, let me do my task ! Ye Angels, your kind aid I ask ;

Ye Brethren, love me ftill;
Ye Foes, let me love you howe'er ;
Ye Fellow-lab'rers, help me here:
My working is from no Self-will!
13. O Father! me with pleafure own,
I am a Member of thy Son :

O Spirit! kifs thou me,
Receive and guide me as thy Child:
O Lamb, who me haft reconcil'd!
My other Self! take me to thee.

2. O my Immanuel !
My Soul come bless and heal;
She scarce can fhew her face,
She can't her grief conceal,
For ah! fhe's in Disgrace:
Lamb, the caufe is this,
Thou bled'ft for her bliss;
She unfaithful is!

3. Were others ferv'd like thee,
Whoever they might be,
And in whatever Land,
Their rage I foon should fee,
I foon fhould feel their hand :
But this gives me Pain,
The Lamb won't complain,
Won't reply again.

4. Should all the patient Love
In heav'nly breafts above,
And all mankind below,
At once united prove,
In one Heart meet and grow;
His Patience, my friends,
Far beyond extends,
Far, and never ends.
5. Love is his Nature still,
Faithful his Heart and will:
I am his helpless Worm,
Whereon he fhews his skill;
I cannot ought perform,
I but quiet reft,

Look to his dear Breast,
Let him do what's beft.
6. Who would not think to fee
Pure wonders now from me?
What finest Fruits should yield
T'adorn his grace fo free,
My Heart's well-watered Field?
Ah! what fhall I say?
Reach a leaf, I pray,
I quite fink away.
7. Me here to justify!
That cannot be, I cry,
Or to the Father say,
Faithful and true am I:
Complains the Fiend alway,

I nought

I nought for thee do! Here I join him too; Muft not alfo thou?

8. However, dearest Lamb,
Thou leav'ft me not in fhame;
I am thy Flesh and bone,
Who weak and helpless am,
Yet fain would 'bide thy own;
Who for th' World didst pray,
And thy Flock each day,
For me know'ft a Way.
9. Accus'd I furely am,
In this and that to blame,
In more than I can guess:
Stands in the gap the Lamb,
And helps me in Distress;
Give me, gracious Son,
'Fore thy glorious Throne,
Abfolution.

10. Jehovah, Bridegroom dear!
Behold me guilty here,
Knowing the Shame fo great
(To thee 'tis likewife clear)
Brought on my Soldier-ftate;
Here I have no veil,
Yet I bear thy Seal,
My Immanuel.

11. O my Immanuel !

My foul come bless and heal,
With grace anoint it o'er,
Thy Oil of joy reveal;
Say to me infect poor,

Thy Reproach is mine, "All my Merit's thine, "Glorious fhalt thou fhine! 12. All this, Lamb, I believe ! There, there, my fhame receive, Impart thy Peace to me, To work thy Power give, Then tir'd I shall not be Amen! true is this, I am 'caufe He is, And He's love's Abyss.

word,

In fpirit free and bold,
In hunger, heat and cold:
To fpread the Gospel News,
What foul could e'er refufe?
2. What foul, who tafted has
What Thou art, what he was,
Whofe fins are done away,
Who has no more to pay;
Who fees the Whole is done,
And done by thee alone?
3. To thee one gives one's heart,
Thou Man of love and fmart
Thou tender hearty Lamb!
Who gives thee a right name?
All Names, that we can find,
Leave much unfaid behind.
4. Tho' thoufand tongues we had,
And hearts for ever glad,
Enough we ne'er could fing
Of thee our Head and King,
Of thee and of our Price,
Thy Blood, thy facrifice.

Give

Give us in every place
Room to declare thy Grace.
8. And thou before us go,
To every finner fhew
What Need he has of thee:
Then bring us happily
To faften in his heart,
That thou that Saviour art.
9. 'Tis well we know thy plan,
What our God wills and can ;
Elfe we should fometimes fink,
And not know what to think,
When Matters heavy move:
But thou art Pow'r and love.
10. O look then, dearest Lamb!
On all our thoughts and Aim;
Our weakness well thou know'ft,
Of ought we cannot boast,
But that we truft thy Word,
And know who is our Lord.
11. Let our Beginnings be,
Dear Jefu, ey'd by thee;
Thofe things which purpos'd are,
Help us to bring to bear;
Our many things among,
Forgive whate'er is wrong.
12. Go on to bless our plan:
How little's all we can!
Yet, Workman great and wife!
Who fhall thy Work despise?
A tool that's us'd by thee
Can wonders do, we fee.

13. This Flock of finners poor,
Who all thy Name adore,"
Has help'd thy praise to spread;
O let them have thy Aid!
If thou but helpest still,
They'll execute thy Will.

Repeat that Word once more! With fuch an energy and light, That this world's flattery nor fpight To shake me ever may have pow'r. 2. From various Cares my heart retires ;

Tho' deep and boundless its defires,

I'm now to please but One: He, before whom the Elders bow, With him is all my business now,

And with the fouls that are his own. 3. This is my joy, (which ne'er can fail,)

To fee my Saviour's Arm prevail;

To mark the steps of Grace; How new-born fouls convinc'd of fin, His Blood reveal'd to them within, Extol my Lamb in ev'ry place.

4.

With these my happy lot is caft! Thro' the World's defarts rude and wafte,

Or thro' its gardens fair; Whether the storm of malice sweeps, Or all in dead fupineness fleeps;

Still to go on, be my whole care. 5. See the dear Sheep by Jefus drawn,

In bleft fimplicity move on;

They trust his Shepherd's crook: Beholders many faults will find, But they can guess at Jefu's Mind,

Content, if written in his book. 6. O all ye wife, ye rich, ye juft, Who the Blood's Doctrine have dif cufs'd,

And judge it weak and flight:
Grant but I may (the reft's your own)
In fhame and poverty fit down

At this one Well-fpring of delight!
7. Indeed if Jefus ne'er was flain,
Or ought can make his Ransom vain,
That now it heals no more;
If his Heart's tenderness is fled;
If of a Church he is not head,
Nor Lord of all, as heretofore:

On that eternal Love of thine,

And human thoughts forget;
Childlike attend what thou wilt fay;

Yet never leave my fweet Retreat. 12. At all times to my fpirit bear An inward Witness, soft and clear, Of thy redeeming Pow'r : This will instruct thy child and fit, Will sparkle forth whate'er is right, For Exigence of every hour. 13. Thus all the Sequel is well weigh'd!

Let thy tender Mercy, that's never-

And let thy Blood and grace be their fupport

Ev'n in ftorms and tempefts, which may be raging;

They know thy Name, to whom alone the affwaging

The fea belongs.
