XVII. To them that keep GOOD COMPANY.

Prov. xiii. 20. He that walketh with wife men, fhall be wife: But a companion of fools shall be deftroyed.

Prov. xviii. 17. Iron fharpeneth iron: fo a man fharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Pf. i. 1. Bleffed is the man that Avoid evil Company. walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor ftandeth in the way of finners, nor fitteth in the feat of the fcornful. Prov. ix. 6. Forfake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

XVIII. To them that PERFORM their OATHS.

XIX. To the KEEPING of the Sabbath.

Exod. xx. II. The LORD bleffed the Sabbathday, and hallowed it.

If. lvi. 2. Bleffed is the man that doth this, and the fon of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

Ver. 6. The fons of the stranger that join themfelves to the LORD, to ferve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his fervants; every one that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant:

Ver. 7. Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer ; their burnt-offerings and their facrifices fhall be accepted upon mine altar: For mine house fhall be called a house of prayer unto all people.

I. lviii. 13. If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable, and fhalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words

Ver. 14. Then fhalt thou delight thyfelf in the LORD, and I will caufe thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: For the mouth of the LORD hath Spoken it.

Ezek. xx. 20. Hallow my fabbaths, and they fhall be a fign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your GOD.

CHAP. II.

PROMISES TO DUTIES OF THE SECOND TABLE.

I. To OBEDIENCE to PARENTS.

PH. vi. 1. Children, obey your parents in the
LORD; for this is right.

Ver. 2. Honour thy father and thy mother (which is the firft commandment, with promise.)

Ver. 3. That it may be well with thee, and that thou mayeft live long on the earth.

Col. iii. 20. Children, obey your parents in all things for this is well pleasing unto the LORD.

1 Tim. v. 4. But if any widow have children, or nephews, [grand children] let them learn first to fhew piety at home, and to requite their parents; for that is good and acceptable before GOD.

Prov. i. 8. My fon, hear the inftruction of thy father; and forfake not the law of thy mother.

II. To GOOD EDUCATION.

Deut. xi. 19. And ye

fhall teach them your children, fpeaking of them when thou fitteft in thine house, and when thou walkeft by the way; when thou lieft down and when thou rifeft up.

Ver. 20. And thou fhalt write them upon the door posts of thine houfe, and upon thy gates:

Ver. 21. That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD fware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven, upon the earth.

Gen. xviii. 19. For I know him [Abraham] that he will command his children and his household after him, and they fhall keep the way of the LORD, to do. justice and judgment, that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

Prov. xxii. 6. Train up a child in the way he fhould go; and when he is old, he will not depart

from it.

To Correcting of
Children.

Prov. xxii. 15. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction fhall drive it far from him.

Prov. xxiii. 13. Withhold not correction from the child; for if thou beateft him with the rod, he shall not die.

Ver. 14. Thou fhalt beat him with the rod, and fhalt deliver his foul from hell.

Prov. xxix. 15. The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left to himself, bringeth his mother to fhame.

Ver. 17. Correct thy fon, and he fhall give thee reft: yea, he shall give delight unto thy foul.

III. To a GOOD WIFE.

Prov. xi. 16. A gracious woman retaineth honour, and a ftrong man riches.

Prov. xii. 4. A virtuous woman is a crown to her hufband; but fhe that maketh afhamed, is as rottennefs in his bones.

Prov. xiv. 1. Every wife woman buildeth her house.

Prov. xxxi. 10. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

Ver. 25. Strength and honour are her clothing, and fhe fhall rejoice in time to come.

Ver. 28. Her children arise up, and call her bleffed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Ver. 30. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain : but a woman that feareth the LORD, the shall be praised.

Ver. 31. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

IV. To FAITHFUL SERVANTS.

Prov. xvii. 2. A wife fervant fhall have rule over a fon that causeth fhame; and shall have a part of the inheritance among the brethren.

Prov. xiv. 35. The king's favour is toward a wife fervant.

Prov. xxvii. 18. Whofo keepeth the fig-tree, fhall eat the fruit thereof; So he that waiteth on his maf ter, fhall be honoured.

Eph. vi. 5. Servants, be obedient to them that are your mafters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in finglenefs of your heart, as unto Chrift: Ver. 6. Not with eye fervice, as men-pleafers; but
