That the Senfe of thefe Words is: At this Time, or in this Part Prayer, I pray peculiarly for my Apoftles, appears from Ver. 20. er pray I for thefe alone, but for them alfa which shall believe on me through Word. And Ver. 21, 23. Our Lord prays for the whole World; for ays for fuch an Unity and Agreement among his Followers, as may be e to the World, and that the World may be thereby induced to bethat the Father had fent him; that is, that the World might own to be the Meffiak, and believe, repent, be converted and farved. So here is no Foundation for the Opinion of thofe, who fancy, that ufe our Lord does not in this Verte pray for the World, therefore he ot die for the World, but only for fome few Perfons; for it is manifeft he in other Parts of the Chapter prays for the World.
