1

Judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall every man that hath done well have praise of God.

2

Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? To his own master he standeth or falleth.

3

But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of Christ.

4

So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God; let us not therefore judge one another any more.

5

Judge not according to the appearance: but judge righteous judgment.

6

Charity thinketh no evil, believeth all things, hopeth all things; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth.

7 One believeth that he may eat all things; another who is weak eateth herbs: let not him that eateth, despise him that eateth not; and let not him that eateth not, judge him that eateth.

* Take no heed unto all words that are spoken, lest thou hear thy servant curse thee. For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.

9

Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's

eye.

1Thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest, when thou that judgest dost the same things; for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and dost the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

2

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at his neighbour.

3

Speak evil of no man.

In Speaking.

4 Speak not evil one of another, brethren; for he that speaketh ill of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law.

5 Thou shalt not raise a false report.

He that covereth a transgression, seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter, separateth very friends. 7 He that uttereth a slander is a fool.

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable; but the mouth of the wicked speaketh froward

ness.

"Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

10 All that watch for iniquity shall be cut off; and they that make a man an offender for a word.

"Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, he shall be cut off. And revilers shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 The wicked shall be ashamed, and put to silence, which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

TRUTH AND SINCERITY.

2 Lie not one to another; seeing ye have put off the old man with his deeds. But speak the truth in love.

3 Put away lying, and speak every man truth with his neighbour; for we are members one of another. Lay aside all guile and hypocrisies. Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

4

5

As God is true, let not your word toward one another be and nay.

yea

6 Of whom hast thou been afraid, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, (saith the Lord) nor laid it to thy heart.

He that hateth, dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him: he blesseth with his mouth, but curseth inwardly; speaking lies in hypocrisy.

8 As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death; so is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am I not in sport?

9

A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

10

A man that flattereth his neighbour, spreadeth a net for his feet.

[blocks in formation]

1 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips, and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

2 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

3

He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous, him shall the people curse; nations shall abhor him. + Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be showed before the whole congregation.

5 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment: for the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

6

Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord; but they that deal truly are his delight.

7 The Lord shall destroy them which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.

8 All liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.

EDIFICATION.

› Comfort yourselves together, and edify In general. one another.

10 Let us follow after the things wherewith one may edify another. Let all things be done to edifying.

11 Let us consider one another, to provoke unto love and to good works; and so much the more, as we see the day approaching.

12 Let every one of us please his neighbour, for his good to edification, not seeking our own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. For even Christ pleased not himself.

13 All things are lawful for me, but all things edify

1 Strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

2 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers.

3

Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Speak a word in season to him that is weary; and let thy words uphold him that is fallen.

4

* If a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

5 Of some have compassion, making a difference; and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire.

6

* Confess your faults one to another; and submit yourselves one to another, in the fear of God.

7 He that winneth souls is wise.

8

Brethren, if any of you do err from the faith, and one convert him, let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. Have compassion on the ignorant, By Instruction. and on them that are out of the way; for that ye yourselves also are compassed with infirmity.

10 Instruct them that oppose themselves; cause them to understand wherein they have erred; and make them know the certainty of the words of truth that they that err in spirit may come to understanding; and they that murmur, may learn the doctrine. how forcible are right words!
