AN ACT for the Closing of portions of Larkin
Street, in the Municipality of Kanowna.

[Assented to 21st November, 1901.]

E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parlia

ment assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-

1. All rights of way in and over such portions of Larkin Street, Abolition of certain in the Municipality of Kanowna, as are described in the Schedule thoroughfare.

to this Act shall henceforth cease and determine; and it shall be

lawful for His Majesty to deal with the said portions of the said street as if the same had never been any portion of a public street or subject to such rights.

SCHEDULE.

THOSE portions of Larkin Street, in the Municipality of Kanowna, hereinafter described, namely:

1. Bounded by lines starting from a point 64 links North from the NorthWest corner of Kanowna Lot 60 and extending North 713 links; thence East 2 chains 50 links, South 713 links, and West 2 chains 50 links to the starting point.

2. Bounded by lines starting from a point situate 64 links North from the North-West corner of Kanowna Lot 41 and extending North 713 links, East 2 chains 50 links, South 713 links, and West 2 chains 50 links to the starting point.

AN ACT to amend the Friendly Societies Act, 1894.

Assented to 21st November, 1904.]

E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the Friendly Societies Amendment Short title. Act, 1904, and shall be construed as one with the Friendly Societies Act, 1894, hereinafter called the principal Act.

2. Section seven of the principal Act is amended—
(1.) By inserting in subsection three, after the word "For," section 7.
the words "insuring money to be paid on the death of
such persons or for "; and

(2.) By inserting in the proviso, after the word "week," the
words or for the payment of a sum at death, or for
defraying the expenses of burial from any one fund
exceeding, in the case of a member, one hundred pounds,
or, in the case of any other person, fifty pounds.'

3. Section eight of the principal Act is hereby repealed, and the following shall be inserted in place thereof:

8. Societies may be registered under this Act for any purpose which the Minister may authorise as a purpose to which the provisions of this Act, or such of them as are specified in the authority, ought to be extended, with or without any of the purposes enumerated in section seven.

4. Section twelve of the principal Act is amended as follows:By inserting in paragraph (a) of subsection one, after the words "registered address," the words "or registered office."

By adding to paragraph (b) the words "The same person shall not be secretary or treasurer of a registered society or branch and a trustee of that society or branch."

By striking out the words "who dies at sea," in subsection two, and substituting the following words:-" whose body is not or cannot be recovered, or who dies or is drowned at sea; but in such case the trustees shall not be liable to pay any claim until, in the opinion of a majority of such trustees, satisfactory proof of death is produced."

5. Section fourteen of the principal Act is amended by adding, at the end of subsection three, the words "The marriage of a member of a society or branch shall operate as a revocation of any nomination theretofore made by that member under this section."

AN ACT to render valid certain Loans raised by the Municipality of Fremantle.

WE

[Assented to 21st November, 1904.]

HEREAS certain loans, known as Loans numbers one, five, Preamble. and six, particulars whereof are set forth in the Schedule hereto, were raised by the Municipality of Fremantle, and the debentures issued therefor were not scaled as required by law in consequence of the said municipality not having, at the time of the raising of the said loans, a common seal, and it is expedient to give validity to the said debentures: Be it therefore enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. Notwithstanding the provisions of the law were not complied Validating debenwith by the Municipality of Fremantle in sealing the said tures. debentures, the same shall be as good and valid for all purposes

as if they had been sealed as required by law.
