Q.13. Are we not the children of God then by nature?

A-No; we are born in sin, the children of wrath. "Ye were by nature the children of wrath, even as others," Eph. 2. 3.

Q. 4.-Prove from Scripture, that God is the Father of those who truly believe in Jesus Christ.

A. As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the Sons of God, even to them that believe on his name ; which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God," Jo. 1, 12, 13.

Q.15.—What do you mean when you say

that he is the Father Almighty?

A.I mean, that he has all power to do whatsoever he pleaseth: God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this, that power belongeth unto God." Ps. 62, 11.

Q. 16. In what respect is the power of God different from that of man?

A.-Man's power is received from others, and depends upon others; but God's power is from himself, and the power of others is all from him.

Q. 17. Explain this.

A. The power of the greatest king in the world, depends upon his subjects; but God's power depends upon none.

Q. 18. And does the power of God extend over all things

A. Yes; the power of kings extends only over a part of this earth; but God ruleth over all. "Thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come of thee; and thou reignest over all." 1 Chro. 29. 12.

* Q. 19.-Can God do what he pleases with the things which he has made?

A.—Yes; just as pleases with the clay.

a potter can do what he "O house of Israel,

cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hands, so are ye in mine hands, O house of Israel." Jer. 18. 6.

* Q. 20.-When does the power of man come to an end?

A.-When he dies. forth, he returneth to his

to an end?

A.-No, never.

For thine is the king

dom, and the power, and the glory, for ever."

Matt. 6. 13.

Q. 22.-Is there any that we should fear

so much as God?

A.-No, none.

"Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do: But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear; fear him, which after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, fear him." Luke 12. 4, 5.

* Q. 23.-Since God is Almighty, it must be very terrible to provoke his anger.

A.-Very terrible; for " Our God is a consuming fire," to the obstinate and impenitent sinner. Heb. 12. 29.

* Q. 24.-Have we reason to be happy, if we know God to be our Father through Christ?

A. Yes, every reason; for since he is Almighty, he is able to do for us exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think,

Unto him therefore be glory in the church

by Christ Jesus, throughout all ages, world with, Eph. 3. 21.

put end. Amen."

MAKER OF HEAVEN AND EARTH,

* Q. 1.-What is included in the words heaven and earth?

A.The whole world.

Q. 2.-Did God make the world, as al artist, amongst us, makes a thing?

A. No: man must have materials to work with; but God made heaven and earth without any materials, for he made them out of nothing.

* Q. 3.-Does God want time, as we do, in order to make any thing?

A. No He has only to speak the word, and the thing is done. "Let all the earth fear the Lord let all the inhabitants of the world

:

stand in awe of him. For he spake and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast." Ps. 33. 8, 9.

Q. 4.-For what reason did God make the world?

A. He made it of His own good pleasure, and to shew forth His glory. "Thou art wor

thy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honour, and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure, they are, and were created." Rev.

4. 11.

Q. 5.-How do we know that God created the world out of nothing?

A. He has been pleased to make it known to us in his word.

Q. 6. Could we never have found it out ourselves, if God had not revealed it?

A.-No. Reason could never have discovered that the world was created by the word of God, for the wisest philosophers have tried without effect, to explain how the world was formed.

Q. 7-Did these wise men agree in their conclusions ?

A. -By no means. Some said that the world was eternal; others that it was made by the accidental coming together of little particles of matter; others that all things were made from water but none could find out, that the world was created out of nothing, by the Almighty power of God.
