Dry Docks, &c.: The docks are fully equipped with sheds, steam and hydraulic cranes to lift from 1 to 65 tons, hydraulic coal hoists, capstans, and other appliances for facilitating traffic. There are rails on all the quays in direct communication with the Cal. and N. B. Railways. There are sheds for storage of esparto, and extensive yards for timber. Charges. Rates on goods. Coal Pilotage. (Leith Harbour and Docks) - District. The limits of the port and harb. of Leith extending from a point at a bridge beyond or east of Seafield Toll Bar eastward of Leith to Wardie Brow or Brae westward of Newhaven, and half-way across the Firth of Forth. (These limits are extended for pilotage purposes by Article 8 of the Bye-laws and Regulations.) Rates per foot. The Firth of Forth from Fife Ness on the north to St. Abb's Head on the south; the Corporation also have power to license pilots "for seas and firths and along the coasts and islands of the Northern and German Oceans." Rates. For piloting vessels from St. Abb's Head or Bell Rock to Harb. Pilots limits or Leith Roads, and from there to Carron Roads, &c., and vice versâ : For distances between St. Abb's Head to May Island or Bass, and therce to Leith Roads 3/ per league to be deducted from above rates, but in no case shall the pilot's fee be reduced more than one-half. The daily pay of a pilot during detention shall, exclusive of his proper pilotage, be 5/ for every lay day after the day of the vessel's arrival, over and above his proper maintenance out of the ship's stores. Towage. Towing in Firth of Forth: - All vessels taken in tow between the quay and old dock gates shall pay harb. towage. Sailing vessels towed from one dock to another shall pay: under 250 tons 15/; under 500 tons 20/; under 1,000 tons 30/; under 2,000 tons 40/; under 3,000 tons 60/. Steamers: under 1,000 tons 30; under 2,000 tons 40/; under 3,000 tons 50/; over 3,000 tons 60/. Any tug going to any port E. of Leith for the purpose of towing any vessel or vessels to any port above Granton shall receive 10/ extra. Any steamer being attended (when under own steam) from Leith Roads into Leith shall pay 65; and if two tugs be employed the second to receive £3. Any steamer being attended (when under own steam) from Leith to Leith Roads shall pay £3; and if two tugs be employed the second to receive £2. Any vessel being towed from Leith and Granton building yards to Leith or Granton under 1,000 tons, for one boat £3, for second boat £2; above 1,000 tons, for one boat £5, for second boat £3; Kinghorn I additional each.
