Inwards: From Middle Mouse Island, on the true bearing of south, or from any point between the Middle Mouse and Great Ormshead Lighthouse on the same bearing 9/ per foot; from Great Ormshead Lighthouse on the true bearing of south, or from any point East of Great Ormshead Lighthouse on the above bearing, 8/ per foot. Outwards, compulsory:-To the Bar light vessel, if the vessel proceeds through the Queen's Channel, or to the Horse Channel Fairway buoy, if the vessel proceeds through the Rock Channel, 4/ foot; Liverpool, trial trip, not farther than NW. lightship and back 8/ foot. All vessels drawing less than 8ft to be charged the 8ft rate. Coasting vessels, which have been bonâ fide engaged in the coasting trade of Great Britain and Ireland for a total period of not less than six months, pay half above rates respectively when on coasting voyages. These rates are charged for every foot of water a vessel may draw, and so in proportion for every half-foot, but no allowance is made for any dft. above or under half a foot, and no vessel shall pay for less than 8ft. Inwards, voluntary :-From any point between Middle Mouse and Queen's Channel to River Dee, Rhyl, Beaumaris, or Holyhead 10/ ft; from any point between Middle Mouse and Queen's Channel to Lancester Sound or Pile a Foudre 13/ ft, or to Nelson Buoy (for Preston or Bog Hole) 12/ ft; or to Dulas Bay, Moelfra Roads, or Redwharf Bay 5 ft. Outwards, voluntary, after having been piloted to the limits of compulsory pilotage:-To river Dee or Great Ormshead 4/ ft; to Lancaster Sound, Pile a Foudre, or Beaumaris 6/ ft; to Point Lynas, Whitehaven or Isle of Man 5/ ft; to Holyhead 7/6 ft; to any point in St. George's or Bristol Channels not farther than Tuskar or Cardiff, Clyde or Belfast 10/ ft; to Start Point 15/ ft; to Dungeness 20/ ft. Coasting vessels one-half the above rates; every additional foot and every half foot charged proportionately, but no allowance made for anything under half a foot. 3. RIVER RATES TO OR FROM THE UPPER MERSEY.

(a) Voluntary rates:-Pilotage is NC. to northward of the said line drawn from Dingle Point to New Ferry Slip for vessels bound to or from (i) Garston, Weston Point, or Ellesmere Port; (ii) any of the Manchester Ship Canal Company's docks at Runcorn; or (iii) any dock, quay, or wharf lying to the southward of the said imaginary line, and being within the jurisdiction of the Upper Mersey Commissioners. The rate for transporting vessels bound to or from any of such places from or to any point northward of the said imaginary line (services ending or commencing at Garston or Eastham Locks, respectively), is £2.

(b) Compulsory rates -Pilotage C. to the northward of the said line for vessels bound to or from any place to the southward thereof other than those places mentioned in clause 3. a, (i), (ii), (iii). The rates in such cases are those set out in clause 2 (b) and (c) hereof; but if pilots are required to pilot vessels from Garston or Eastham Locks to such line aforesaid, or from such line to Garston or Eastham Locks there will be an additional charge of 15/. (c) Rates applicable to compulsory or voluntary services :— For each extra attendance of a pilot at Runcorn.. For each extra attendance of a pilot at Garston or Eastham At Liverpool or Birkenhead, or any other places on the river Extra days while at anchor in the river

If a pilot be carried away under circumstances of unavoidable necessity, he shall be allowed 10/6 per day for every day and part of a day until he can return to duty; and if he be landed to find his way back to Liverpool, from any of the undermentioned places, or if he be sent to a vessel at any of the said places, he is to be allowed travelling expenses as follows-viz., to or from Southport 5/, Preston 5/, Mostyn 7/6, Fleetwood 7/6, Rhyl 10, Llandudno 10/, Piel Harbour, 15, Isle of Man 20/, Holyhead 20/, Point Lynas 20/, Maryport 22/6 Glasgow 25/, Dublin 25/, Bristol Channel 32/6, Belfast 35, I ondonderry 40/, Waterford 45/, Queenstown 45, Dunmore 50. All inward-bound ships, except coasting vessels in ballast or under 100 tons register, are subject to compulsory pilotage, and must display a signal for a pilot on coming within the limits of the outer pilot station, viz., when the Middle Mouse bears S. by W. W. by compass, under a penalty of £5, and must take a pilot from the first pilot boat which shall display the

usual signal offering a pilot, under a penalty of double pilotage in each instance of omission to take a pilot when offered. Ships liable to compulsory pilotage must take the first pilot who offers.

Steamers to and from Garston, £1 per tug over above rates. Cattle Stage Rates-river to stage, £6; stage to river, £6; stage to dock, river to pier rate. Hawser Rates.--With steam, under 1,200 tons, 1; over 1,200 tons, £2. Without steam, see Sailing Ship rates. Shifting berths, or hanging-on vessels in river, attendance, clearing anchors, and adjusting compasses- Under 350 tons, 20/ per hour; under 500 tons, 25/; under 750 tons, 30/; under 1,000 tons, 35/; and under 1,500 tons, 40/; 5/ per hour extra charged for every 500 tons over above tonnages, or any portion thereof. Steamers not under steam pay above rates on their gross tonnage. Liverpool Docks. When a tug is required to go into the Liverpool Docks to tow, the Dock Towage Rates will be charged in addition to river towage, as per rates authorised by Mersey Docks and Harbour Board. Launches.-Attendance on launches, pier to pier rate for first boat (if more than one be engaged, £7 per tug after the first), steamers pay sailing-ship rates, and on their gross tonnage; when a tug is ordered, attends, and is not employed, the vessel to pay £3. Dock Sill Towage.-By agreement. River Attendance.-2 per hour for first three hours, and 30/ per hour after; attendance below the Rock, 40 per hour. Wrecks.--Attendance only on stranded vessels or wrecks, first rate boats, £15 per tide; second rate ditto, £12 ditto, when required to tow, £20 and £15 respectively (for use of hawser, £5 per tide extra). Disabled Vessels or Steamers.-When proceeding down channel in search of steamers or disabled vessels, supposed to require immediate assistance, the charge to be for a first rate boat, £20 per tide; for a second rate ditto, £15 ditto, but when required to tow, £25 for first rate boat and £20 second rate boat. The steamer to be paid from the time of departure to the time of her return. All the above-mentioned rates are exclusive of the use of hawsers.

N. B.-Wire Hawsers. The proprietors beg to give notice that they will not under any circumstances use the wire hawsers, in consequence of the risk to life and property. Returned Vessels.-Towing from pier or river to between Rock and Crosby Lightship and back to river, full rate to Bar Lightship; ditto between Crosby and Formby Lightships and back to river, rate and half rate to Bar Lightship; ditto between Formby Lightship and Bar Lightship and back to river, double rate to Bar Lightship; towing to sea or down channel, and tug ordered to return with vessel, to be paid the full rate each way for distance towed. Exceptions and Conditions.When towing by stages, and through stress of weather the steamer can make little or no headway, she is to be paid by the hour from the time of passing the last stage, captain of tug notifying the same by signal or otherwise to the person in charge of the vessel; towage to be charged by the hour if the tug is taken beyond the stage agreed upon; when towing from river to pier, or from pier to pier, and vessel ordered back to river or to another pier, to be paid full and half towage.
