the Trinity pier, the water alongside now being deepened to 20ft LWOS. Depth from 12ft to 40ft at HWOS, and 8ft to 36ft at HWNT. On the W. side of Mill Bay is a pier Sooft long, alongside which vessels of 24ft dft. can lie afloat. The Inner Basin, or wet dock, has an entrance Soft wide, is 1,200ft long, 500ft wide, and a depth of 22ft at HWOST., 18ft at ONT.; area 13 acres. LV. at LWOST., ss. Cavour, 3,151 tons net, 4,914 gross. There is about 7,000ft of quayage space, 4 miles of railway sidings, and extensive warehouses and sheds. W. prev, S. and SW. The Harb, of Hamoaze is reserved for H.M, ships. There is every accn. for shipping. Dry docks, &c., as follows:

All ships drawing less than 1oft pay for 10ft. Mail steamers calling to land mails and passengers, and all vessels calling for despatches only, to pay the rate per ft inwards as above, and 2/6 per ft outwards. Steamers or vessels towed a reduction of one-fourth, in proportion to distance steamed or towed. Steamships putting into Plymouth Sound for bunker coal only pay for pilotage in and out for inwards only, without deduction.

Should any ship above 17ft dft. be boarded while the Western Land is open off the Ram Head, by one of the second-class pilots, and he runs the ship as far in as either of the buoys on the Panther or Shovel, and is there superseded by one of the first-class, he is entitled to one-third of the pilotage. If a master retain or employ a pilot whilst at anchor, the rate for the lay-days is 10/ a day.

Towage.-Vessels of 250 tons, from Sound to docks £1 10s; 1,000 tons £3; 2,000, £5.

ballast or light, in 4d, out 1d; engaged in coasting trade, arriving from and departing to a coasting port with or without cargo (one calendar month allowed), in or out 1d; river craft, loading or discharging cargo (one calendar month allowed), in or out, d (id per reg. ton per month, or part of a month, after the first month, will be charged in addition to above rates on all vessels); river craft, without loading or discharging cargo, in or out d; new vessels fitted out, or other vessels brought into harb. for repairs, payable by shipbuilder (one calendar month), sailing vessel 2d, steam vessel 3d, for every week or part of a week thereafter d; payable by owner-sailing or steam vessel leaving without ballast or cargo, or taking not more than one-fourth of reg. tonnage of ballast or cargo 2d; taking more than one-fourth but not exceeding one-half reg. tonnage of ballast or cargo 4d; more than one-half of tonnage of ballast or cargo 6d. If any vessel loads more than half her reg. tonnage of cargo, the rate payable by the shipbuilder will be reduced to one-half, the number of dates for such rates being fixed by the date on which written notice is given to the Harb. A vessel brought to the graving dock for repairs is allowed 12 working days in the harb. free of dues, but if such vessel discharges or loads cargo, the ordinary dues are charged; bunker coals are charged as cargo. A vessel brought to the harb. and repaired there by any other person than the lessees of the graving dock, although afterwards docked, is charged the same rates as new vessels, and will not be allowed the 12 working days granted to a vessel brought to the dock for repairs by the lessees.
