All vessels exceeding 450 tons d ton each way for the excess of tonnage above 450, in addition to the above rate for 450 tons. Where vessels have to be moved about the wharves and pilots retained by captains of vessels for such services, said pilot is not allowed to charge more than 6/3 for each and every tide, to be left to the captain's option to employ pilot for such services. Sugar, spirits, Palmyra treacle and jaggery, ground nuts, groundnut punnac and oil, paddy, rice, cotton piece goods, gingelly, and margosa oil. Accn. D. on bar 3 to 6ft, in port 6ft. Vessels of 6 ft dft. only can enter at HW. Anchorage in 6 fms., about 1 miles off shore. Charges. Port dues 3 annas per ton; loading and unloading, 5 to 8 annas per ton. Official. CURACAO PORT, W.I. Lat. 12° 6' N; long. 68° 57′ W. Pop. About 29,081. Tr.-I. Coal, lumber, cordage, petroleum, provisions, aloes, woollens, cottons, fancy goods; E. Salt, phosphate of lime, orange peel, dividivi and straw hats. Accn. Harbour about 2 miles in length, with 8 to 11 fms in the middle. Vessels of considerable burden can lie alongside the wharves. Charges. Harbour dues, Colonial vessels pay f.o 12 per cubic m. once in three months; vessels of 50 c. m. pay per c.m., f.o'06, 50 to 100 c.m. f.o'07, 101 to 200 c.m. f. 10, above 200 c. m. f.1 20. Vessels engaged in carrying cargoes of coals to this island are exempt from the payment of light and beacon dues. Pilotage. NC on Colonial vessels. Steamships (merchantmen), in and out the St. Anna Bay and the Schottegat, for a vessel of 1,250 tons and above, f.75.00; 800 to 1,250 and above, f.6500; 400 to 800 and above, f55.00; under 400, f.30'00; all tons of 2.83 cubic metres. An extensive well-sheltered new harb., with a depth of 26ft Eng LWM. Two electric cranes. Charges. 12pf. per cubic meter, and 6pf. for vessels loaded with coals, bricks, stones, slates, cement, iron ore, ice, herrings, cattle, empty bottles, &c. Others according to agreements. No port charges for vessels windbound. Pilotage and Towage. Fixed new revised tariffs, according to the dft and size of vessels. No distance money charged by the pilots. Officials. Steel ore depot, with 26 ft water alongside; wharf with 10 to 16ft. Harbour Dues and Pilotage same as Santiago. A Customs Inspector and Medical Officer.

DAKAR, Africa.-Lat. 14° 40' N ; long. 17° 24' W. Pop. 8,737. Tr.-I. Coal, Soap, wine, earthenware, paper, iron and cotton goods; E. Ground nuts, rubber, wax, gold dust, gums, &c. Accn. A small but safe harb. formed by two jetties. Vessels discharge with their own gear. Wooden derricks on wharves. Good anchorage for any size vessel. Coaling station and water available. Dry docks under construction. D. 4 to 5fms.; at quays or berth, from 10 to 18it. Charges. Foreign vessels are charged If per reg. ton anchorage dues, French vessels 50c per reg. ton. DALHOUSIE, N.B. Lat. 48° 7′ N; long. 66° 25′ W. Pop. 1,000. Tr.-E. Timber and deals. Accn. The harb. is well sheltered, and of easy access. There are two channels leading to the harb., ent. from 6 to 7 fms to either channel, depth south channel, 6 fms; north channel 8 to 15 fms; the usual anchorage is in 6 to 7 fms, directly off the town. Charges. Loading 75c. per std. for deals. Pilotage. C. $1 per ft in and out; Harb. Master limit $5. Officials. Harbour Masters, Port Wardens; Coll. of Cust, Wm. Montgomery.

DALNY (Manchuria), in Talyenwan Bay. Deep and well protected. Terminus of the Trans-Asian Railway. Vessels anchor in 20ft low water in bay. 7 fms. 3 miles out. Two 50-ton cranes, 4,000ft quays, with 28ft water alongside. Is close to Port Arthur, of which it is the commercial port. Russia has spent four millions sterling in building quays and warehouses. Now occupied by the Japanese. Accn. Two dry docks, belonging to the Government, but open to merchant vessels; one 300ft, 26ft top, 21ft bottom; the other 630ft, 48ft top, 23ft bottom; latter not completed. Two 50-ton floating cranes.

DAMAUN, Portuguese _Hindustan. Lat. 20° 25' N ; long. 72° 58′ E. Pop. About 7,000. Accn. 18ft of water in the river at HT.

DAMIETTA, Egypt (on E. branch of Nile). Pop. 34,044. Tr.-E. Rice, dried fish, dates, coffee, beans, and linen. Accn. Anchorage for vessels over 6ft dft in the offing, in about 6 fms 6 miles from lighthouse. Charges. Lighters, each complete trip, 12 to 15/; port dues, per 100 tons, 3/6; lighthouse dues about 2d; permit of departure, 8d; health office and Custom-house dues same as in other E. ports.

DANZIG, Germany. Lat. 54° 20' 18" N; long. 18° 38′ E. and phosphates. E. Grain, timber, sugar, black beer, amber and Pop. 150,000. Tr.-I. Coal, machinery, spirits. Accn. Vessels drawing 13ft can load alongside the quays in town, whilst at Neufahrwasser and in river Vistula, up to the Holm, 7 metres 22ft water. Vessels drawing 20ft to 22ft can enter the harb. A floating dry dock, 250ft in length, new floating dock can take 3,500-ton steamers, and two patent slips. Imperial navy dock for largest vessel can be had on application. Hydr. crane 60 tons, 2 steam cranes, different hand cranes. Charges. Harbour dues and charges, in and out, in ballast with coals, slags, or phosphate, 6pf per cub. metre; with grain, wood, sugar, or general cargo, 12pf per cub, metre. general, 6d. DELAWARE BREAKWATER, U.S.A. Lat. 38° 47′ N; call. Any depth in bay. Pilotage. Cape May to Cape Henlopen, long. 75 06' W. Port of to Delaware river, 12ft £8, to 27ft £20, and in proportion, inwards; outwards £7 10s to £16 10s, and in proportion. Towage. £12 14s to £52 10s (2,000 tons), and in proportion.

DELFZIJL, Netherlands. Lat. 53° 20' N ; long_6° 56′ E. Tr.-I. Timber, coals, coke, grain; E. Straw, strawboards, moss litter, German coke, oats. harbour charges. Discharging coals, 45c per ton; deals, 85c per D. 21to 22ft. No standard. Pilotage. Vessels for this and other Dutch ports on Eems must take Dutch pilot, if German pilot taken both have to be paid; pilotage according to draught, and towage by agreement.

DELLYS, Algeria. Lat. 36° 48′ N; long. 30° 54' E. Good anchorage quarter to half mile from shore, in 10 to 11 fms. of water. Sheltered from W. and NW. winds. Accn. A jetty 240ft long, with a depth of 12 to 13ft alongside; one crane to 2 tons.

DENIA, Spain. Lat. 38° 54′ N; long. 0° 3' E. Situated on the N. side of Cape St. Anthony, in the province of Alicante. The terminus of a narrow gauge railway to Carcagente, on the main line from Madrid to Valencia and Barcelona. Weather is usually fine, especially from the beginning of July to the end of November. Healthy. Pop. about 13,000. Tr.-I. Wheat, flour, lumber, deals, guano, coals, and sulphur ; E. Raisins, grapes, onions, oranges, almonds, tomatoes, pomegranates, and melons. Accn. Steamers anchor in the open roadstead off the town about 1 mile, in 7 to 1ofms, but vessels not drawing over 16ft, when loaded, can anchor inside the harbour, the entrance to which requires a pilot. Vessels can be loaded and discharged quickly by means of hands and lighters; good men and lighters always obtainable. Charges. Harbour works, 15c per ton reg. Harbour dues, I pes. per ton of 1,000 kgs. paid by merchants. Anchorage fee, pes. 6 each vessel that anchors in or outside the port. Mooring: tariff for vessels of from 50 to 75 tons, pes. 10; 76 to 100, pes. 15; 101 to 150, pes. 20; 151 to 200, pes. 25; 201 to 250, pes. 30; 251 to 300, pes. 35; 301 to 350, pes. 40; 351 to 400, pes. 45; 401 to 500, pes. 50; 501 to 600, pes. 55; 601 to 700, pes. 60; 701 to 800, pes. 65. Fresh water, pes. 3 in the port, and pes. 5 outside in the roadstead, for one cask containing about 120 galls. Ballast: stone or clay, pes. 2 per ton delivered alongside the ships in the port. Boatmen, pes. 15 per day; tallymen, pes. 7.50 per day; sanitary guards, pes. 2.50 each man when in quarantine ; survey of hatches, £2. The custom house dues are pes. 2:50 per ton of 1,000 kilos gross weight for exports to Europe, and pes. 5 for exports to America. Carabineros visit vessels during their stay, and one remains on board, and must be housed and fed by the ship. Stevedores, pes. 7.50 each man; at night time pes. 150 extra for every working hour. Head stevedore, pes. 1125; at night time pes. 2 extra for every working hour. Booms, hire, pes. 5 per day. Agents charge 5% on the total freight. Brokerage on procuring charter, 5%.
