• The Governinent has the power to convert this duty into an equivalent specific duty. For the time being the Government has not availed itself of this power.

The importation, manufacture, and transport of saccharin, and products containing the same and similar substances, are forbidden, except by pharmacists for medicinal purposes.

In virtue of a Royal Decree dated August 26, 1903. operative from September 1, 1903, and in pursuance of Art. 2 of the Law dated August 21, 1903, relating to the manufacture and importation of sugars, raw beet and cane sugars, and also refined sugars imported from abroad, shall be liable to a surtax of 5.5of per 100 kilos.
