LMIGHTY God, who haft given us grace at

this time with one accord to make our common fupplications unto thee; and haft promised that in all places where thou doft record thy Name there thou wilt come unto thy people, and bless them: Fulfil now, O Lord, the defires and petitions of thy fervants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

THE ORDER FOR

EVENING PRAYER,

DAILY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

At the beginning of Evening Prayer the Minifter fhall read with a loud voice fome one or more of thefe Sentences of the Scriptures that follow. And then he shall fay that which is written after the faid Sentences.

HEN the wicked man turneth
away from
his wickedness that he hath committed,
and doeth that which is lawful and right,
he fhall fave his foul alive. Ezek. xviii.

I acknowledge my tranfgreffions, and my fin is ever before me. Pfal. li. 3.

Hide thy face from my fins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Pfal. li. 9.

The facrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not defpife. Pfal. li. 17.

Rend your heart and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, flow to anger and of great kindness. Joel ii. 12.

To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgiveneffes, though we have rebelled against him: neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws which he fet before us. Dan. ix. 9, 10.

Repent ye; for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. St. Matth. iii. 2.

I will arife, and go to my father, and will fay unto him, Father, I have finned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy fon. St. Luke xv. 18, 19.

Enter not into judgement with thy fervant, O Lord; for in thy fight shall no man living be juftified. Pfal. cxliii. 2.

If we say that we have no fin, we deceive ourfelves, and the truth is not in us: but, if we confess our fins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our fins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteoufnefs. 1 St. John i. 8, 9.

Caft away from you all your tranfgreffions, whereby ye have tranfgreffed, and make you a new heart and a new spirit, for why will ye die, O children of men?

For I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, faith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves and live. Ezek. xviii. 31, 32.

Let the wicked forfake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him: and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon him. Ifaiah lv. 7.

He that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is the rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Heb. xi. 6.

The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth for the Father feeketh such to worship him.. St. John iv. 23.

Let us confider one another to provoke unto love and good works; not forfaking the affembling of ourfelves together, as the manner of fome is, but exhort

ing one another, and so much the more as ye fee the day approaching. Heb. x. 24, 25.

He hath fhewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do juftly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God. Micah vi. 8.

eth us in fundry places to acknowledge and confefs our manifold fins and wickedness; and that we should not diffemble nor cloke them before the face of Almighty God our heavenly Father; but confess them with an humble, lowly, penitent, and obedient heart; to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the fame, by his infinite goodness and mercy. And although we ought at all times humbly to acknowledge our fins before God; yet ought we moft chiefly fo to do, when we affemble and meet together to render thanks for the great benefits that we have received at his hands, to fet forth his most worthy praise, to hear his most holy Word, and to afk those things which are requifite and neceffary, as well for the body as the foul. Wherefore I pray and befeech you, as many as are here prefent, to accompany me with a pure heart, and humble voice, unto the throne of the heavenly grace, faying after me;

LMIGHTY and moft merciful Father; We have erred, and ftrayed from thy ways like loft sheep. We have followed too much the devices and defires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone thofe

things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us. Spare thou them, O God, which confefs their faults. Reftore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Chrift Jefu our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, That, for his fake, we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

¶A Prayer for the Remiffion of fins, to be pronounced by the Minifter alone, all still kneeling. LMIGHTY God, the Father of our Lord

finner, but rather that he may turn from his wickedness, and live; and haft taught us that thou art He who pardoneth and abfolveth all them that truly repent, and unfeignedly believe the holy Gofpel. Wherefore we beseech thee to grant us true repentance, and thy holy Spirit, that those things may please thee, which we do at this prefent; and that the rest of our life hereafter may be pure, and holy; so that at the laft we may come to thy eternal joy; through Jefus Christ our Lord.

¶The People fhall answer here, and at the end of all Prayers, Amen.

¶Then the Minifter fhall fay the Lord's Prayer; the people also repeating it with him. ·

UR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be
