Extracts FROM THE JOURNALS, CAMP-MEETINGS, REVIVALS, &c. &c. OF JEREMIAH GILBERT, Primitive Methodist Preacher. "In prisons more frequent." (2 Cor. 11-28.) NORTH SHIELDS: Printed by J. K. Pollock, No. 2, Camden-Street, FOR THE AUTHOR. 1824. PREFACE. The Author hopes that this little work will be the happy means, through the divine blessing, of increasing Christian knowledge, and creating an ardent zeal for the prosperity of the church of God; at the same time he assures the reader that not any thing but a pure motive has prompted him to publish it to mankind. There is nothing flowery about it, the Author having only stated a few plain, simple, and yet affecting facts; some of which, on being read, have caused the wicked to weep, and the children of Zion to rejoice. If the reader should be benefited, all the glory shall be ascribed unto the Lord. JEREMIAH GILBERT. North Shields, Jan. 1824. SCRIPTURE EXTRACTS. "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burnt; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee." (ISAIAH 43-2.) "Fear not; for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth." (ISAIAH 43-5, 6.) |
