things were done. Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, who were early at the sepulchre; and when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. And certain of them who where with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said ; but him they saw not. Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory : And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the Scriptures, the things concerning himself And they drew nigh unto the village whither they went ; and he made as though he would have gone further: But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us; for it is towards evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with thern, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him, and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the Scriptures : And

together, and them that were with them, saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared unto Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

Tuesday in Easter-IP'eek. The Collect.

LMIGHTY God, whe through thine only begotten Son Jesus Christ hast overcome death, and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life; we humbly beseech thee, that as, by thy special grace preventing us, thou dost put into our minds good desires; so by thy continual help we may bring the same to good effect, through Jesus Christ our Lord; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

For the Efistle. Acts xiii. 26.

is EN and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbathday, they have fulfilled them in condemning him. And though they found no cause of death in him yet desired they Pilate

they rose up the same hour, And returned to Jerusalem, and found the cleven gathered

that he should be slain. And when they had fulfilled all that

was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. But God raised him from the dead: And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second Psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee, And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now to more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. Wherefore he saith also in another Psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine holy One to see corruption. For David, after he had served his own generation, by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Beware, therefore, lcst that come upon you which is spoken of in the prophets, Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a

work in your days, a work which you shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

The Gosfiel. St. Luke xxiv. 36:

ESUS himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and asfrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts : Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat 2 and they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them. And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures; and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved

Christ to suffer, and to rise

from the dead the third day; and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among

of God, overcometh the world ; and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God : This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood: And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Eather, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witncss in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood : and these three agree in one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God, which he hath testified of his

Son. He that believeth on the Son of God, hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God, hath made him a liar, because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath inot the Son hath not life. The Gosfiel St. John xx. 19. THE same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut, where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto thema Peace be unto you. And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad when they saw the Lord. Then said Jesus to them again, ”eace be unto you: As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost : Whosesoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them ; and whose socyer sins ye retain, they are retained. The Second Sunday after Joaster. The Collect.

LMIGHTY God, who hast

given thine only Son to be unto us both a sacrifice for sin, and also an ensample of

godly life; give us grace that we may always most thankfully receive that his inestimable benefit, and also daily endeavor ourselves to follow the blessed steps of his most holy life, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Ehistle. 1 St. Peter ii. 19.

HIS is thank-worthy, if a man for conscience to ward God endure grief, suffer. ing wrongfully. For what glory is it, if when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently : But, if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called; because Christ

also suffered for us, leaving us;

an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again, when he suffered, he threatentd not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously : Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sin, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healtd. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the shepherd and bishop of your souls. The Gosfiel. St. John x. 11. Joo. said, I am the good shepherd : the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not,

leaveth the sheep, and fleeth ; and the wolf catcheth them, and seattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sincep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold ; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.

The Collect.

LM1GHTY God, who show•est to them that are in error the light of thy truth, to the intent that they may return into the way of righteousness; grant unto all those who are admitted into the fellowship of Christ's religion, that they may avoid those things that are contrary to their profession, and solkow all such things as are agreeable to the same, through our Lord Jesus Christ, Amcn. is the will of God, that with

delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow : but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

The Collect.

ALMIGHTY God, who alone canst order the unruly wills and affections of sinful men; grant unto thy people, that they may love the thing which thou commandest, and desire that which thou dost promise; that so, among the sundry and manifold changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed, where true joys are to be sound, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
