Sivu 387 - Those of mankind that are predestinated unto life, God, before the foundation of the world was laid, according to his eternal and immutable purpose, and the secret counsel and good pleasure of his will, hath chosen in Christ unto everlasting glory, out of his mere free grace and love, without any foresight of faith or good works, or perseverance in either of them, or any other thing in the creature, as conditions, or causes moving him thereunto ; and all to the praise of his glorious grace.
Sivu 8 - Holy Scripture containeth all things necessary to salvation : so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man, that it should be believed as an article of faith, or be thought requisite or necessary to salvation.
Sivu 386 - God from all eternity did, by the most wise and holy counsel of his own will, freely and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass : yet so as thereby neither is God the author of sin, nor is violence offered to the will of the creatures, nor is the liberty or contingency of second causes taken away, but rather established.
Sivu 469 - God alone is Lord of the conscience, and hath left it free from the doctrines and commandments of men which are in any thing contrary to his word, or beside it, in matters of faith or worship.
Sivu 387 - God's purpose by His Spirit working in due season ; they through grace obey the calling ; they be justified freely ; they be made sons of God by adoption ; they be made like the image of His only-begotten Son Jesus Christ ; they walk religiously in good works, and at length, by God's mercy, they attain to everlasting felicity.
Sivu 388 - Furthermore, we must receive God's promises in such wise, as they be generally set forth to us in holy Scripture : and in our doings, that will of God is to be followed, which we have expressly declared unto us in the Word of God.
Sivu 239 - Hear us (O merciful Father) we beseech Thee ; and with Thy Holy Spirit and word vouchsafe to bless and sanctify these Thy gifts, and creatures of bread and wine, that they may be unto us the body and blood of Thy most dearly beloved Son Jesus Christ.
Sivu 284 - THE Queen's Majesty hath the chief power in this realm of England, and other her Dominions, unto whom the chief Government of all Estates of this Realm, whether they be Ecclesiastical or Civil, in all causes doth appertain, and is not, nor ought to be, subject to any foreign Jurisdiction.
Sivu 288 - But we do hope to find out all your tricks, Your plots and packing, worse than those of Trent; That so the parliament May, with their wholesome and preventive shears, Clip your phylacteries, though balk your ears, And succour our just fears, When they shall read this clearly in your charge, New Presbyter is but old Priest writ large.
Sivu 209 - Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
