PREFACE. THE following Discourses are submitted to the public precisely in the state in which they were delivered from the pulpit. They pretend to no peculiar excellence, either of matter or of style; but the Author has been induced to send them to the press, humbly trusting, that, as they were composed with much care, and with an anxious view to the religious improvement of those committed to his spiritual charge, they may, in their present shape, prove more extensively useful.
