5 6 שלישי 9 הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר־צְוָה יְהוָה לֵאמֹר : 3 אִישׁ אִישׁ מִבֵּית אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁחַט שָׁוֹר אוֹ־כֶשֶׂב אוֹ־עֶן בַּמַּחֲנֶה אוֹ אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁחָט מִחוּץ לַמַּחֲנֶה: 4 וְאֶל־פֶּתַח אהל מועד לֹא הֵבִיאוֹ לְהַקְרִיב קָרְבָּן לַיהוָה לִפְנֵי מִשְׁכָּן יְהוָה דָּם יֵחָשֵׁב לָאִישׁ הַהוּא דֶם שָׁפָךְ וְנִכְרַת הָאִישׁ הַהוּא מִקְרֶב יַעַמְוֹ: לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר יָבִיאוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָ זִבְחֵיהֶם אֲשֶׁר הֵם זִבְחִים עַל־־פְּנֵי הַשָּׂדֶה וְהֵבִיאָם לַיהוָה אֶל־פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מועד אֶל־־הַכֹּהֵן וְזָבְחוּ זִבְחֵי שְׁלָמִים לַיְהוָה אוֹתָם: 6 וְזָרַק הַכֹּהֵן אֶת־הַדָּם עַל־ מִזְבַּח יְהוָה פֶתַח אֹהֶל מיֵעֶר וְהִקְטִיר הַחֵלֶב לְרֵיחַ נִיחֹחַ לַיהוָה: 7 וְלֹא־יִזְבְּחוּ עוֹד אֶת־זִבְחֵיהֶם לַשְׂעִירִם אֲשֶׁר הֵם רֹנִים אַחֲרֵיהֶם חקת עוֹלָם תִּהְיֶה־זְאת לָהֶם לְדִיתָם: חמישי 8 ואלֵהֶם תּאמַר אִישׁ אִישׁ מִבֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל וּמִן־־הָגֶר אֲשֶׁר־יָנוּר, בְּתוֹכָם אֲשֶׁר־יַעֲלֶה עלה אוֹ־זָבָה: וְאֶל־ פָּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד לֹא יְבִיאֶנּוּ לַעֲשׂוֹת אֹתוֹ לַיהוָה וְנכרת הָאִישׁ הַהוּא מֵעַמָּיו: 10 וְאִישׁ אִישׁ מִבֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל וּמִן־ הַגָּר הַגָּר בְּתוֹכָם אֲשֶׁר יֹאכַל כָּל־דָּם וְנָתַתִּי פָנַי בַּנֶפֶשׁ הָאֹכֶלֶת אֶת־הַדָּם וְהִכְרַתִּי אֹתָהּ מִקְרֶב עַמָּה : 12 כִּי נפשׁ הַבָּשָׂר בַּדָּם הִוא וַאֲנִי נְתַתִּיו לָכֶם עַל־־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ לְכַפֵּר עַל־־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם כִּי־יְחַדָּם הוּא בַּנֶפֶשׁ וְכַפֶּר ; 12 עַל־כֵּן אָמַרְתִּי לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כָּל־נֶפֶשׁ מִכֶּם לֹא־תאכַל דֶם וְהַנֵּר הַגָּר בְּתְוֹכְכֶם לֹא־יאכַל דָּם : 13 וְאִישׁ אִישׁ מִבְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וּמִן־הָגָר הַגָּר בְּתוֹכָם אֲשֶׁר יָצוּד צֵיד חַיָּה אוֹרעף אֲשֶׁר יֵאָכֵל וְשָׁפַךְ אֶת־־דָּמוֹ וְכִסֶהוּ בֶּעָפָר : כִּי־נֶפֶשׁ כָּל־בָּשָׂר דָּמְוֹ בְנַפְשׁוֹ הוּא וָאֹמַר לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הֶם כָּל־בָּשָׂר לְא תאכֵלוּ כִּי נָפֶשׁ כָּל־בָּשָׂר דֶמוֹ הִוא כָּל־ אֹכְלָיו יִכָּרֵת: 15 וְכָל־נֶפֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר תּאכַל נְבֵלָה וּטְרֵפָה בְּאֶזְרָח וּבְנֵךְ וְכִבֶּס בְּגָדָיו וְרָחַץ בַּמָּיִם וְטָמֵא עַד-הָעָרֶב וְטָהֵר: 16 וְאִם לֹא יְכַבֵּס וּבְשָׂרוֹ לְאיִרְחָץ וְנָשָׂא עֲוֹנוֹ: : ; {. 14 16 24 And he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth and offer his burnt-offering, and the burnt-offering of the people, and make an atonement for himself, and for the people. 25 And the fat of the sin-offering shall he burn upon the altar. 26 And he that let go the goat for the scape-goat, shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp. 27 And the bullock for the sinoffering, and the goat for the sinoffering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp, and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung. 28 And he that burneth them, shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp. 29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your 34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel, for all their sins, once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses. CHAP. XVII. 1 Blood of beasts must be offered 2 Speak unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them, This * In the court where was the laver, Exodus, chap. xxx. ver. 18, Meaning, by abstinance and fasting. Numbers, chap. xxix. ver. 7. Whom the priest shall anoint by God's commandment to succeed in his father's room. ** The command's in this chapter are rather obscure; for, they seem to refer to several periods of the situation of the children of Israel, viz.-From the beginning, to the end of verse 6, referreth to the time that they were in the wilderness, and until they were settled in the holy land, and that they had a settled place for the tabernacle; and till such time, they were not permitted to eat any meat without bringing the beast to the tabernacle, and offering part of it for the peace-offerings; but, after the tabernacle was settled in a fixed place, they might kill beasts and eat flesh, in all places, without offering it as a peace-offering. Vide Deuteronomy, chap. xii, ver. 15. 24 שני לְכָל־חַטאתָם וְנָתַן אֹתָם עַל־רִאשׁ הַשָּׁעִיר וְשֶׁלַח בְּיַד־ אִישׁ עִתִּי הַמִּדְבָּרָה: 22 וְנָשָׂא הַשָּׂעִיר עָלָיו אֶת־כָּל־ עֲוֹנֹתָם אֶל־אֶרֶץ גְּזֵרָה וְשִׁלַּח אֶת־־הַשָּׂעִיר בַּמִּדְבָּר: 23 וּבָא אַהֲרן אֶל־אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וּפָשַׁט אֶת־בִּגְדֵי הַבָּד אֲשֶׁר לָבַשׁ בְּבֹאוֹ אֶל־הַקְדֶש וְהִנִּיחָם שָׁם: 24 וְרָחַץ אֶת־בְּשָׂרוֹ בַמַּיִם בְּמָקוֹם קָדושׁ וְלָבַשׁ אֶת־בְּגָדָיו וְיָצָא וְעָשָׂה אֶת־־עֲלָתוֹ וְאֶת־עלַת הָעָם וְכִפֶּר בַּעֲדוֹ וּבְעַד שלישי הָעָם: 25 וְאֵת חֵלֶב הַחַטָאת יַקְטִיר הַמִּזְבֵּחָה: 26 וְהַמְשַׁלְחַ אֶת־הַשָּׂעִיר לֶעָזָאזֵל יְכַבֵּס בְּגָדָיו וְרָחַץ אֶת־־בְּשָׂרוֹ בַּמַּיִם וְאַחֲרֵי־־כֵן יָבוֹא אֶל־־הַמַּחֲנֶה: 27 וְאֵת פַּר הַחַטָאת וְאֵתישְׂעִיר הַחַטָאת אֲשֶׁר הוּבָא אֶת־דְּמָם לְכַפּר בַּקדֶשׁ יוֹצִיא אֶל־מחוץ למחנה וְשָׂרְפוּ בָאֵשׁ אֶת־שׂחֹתָם וְאֶת־בְּשָׂרָם וְאֶת־פַּרְשָׁם : 28 וְהַשׂרֵף אֹתָם יְכַבֵּס בְּגָדָיו וְרָחַץ אֶת־בְּשָׂרִי בַּמָּיִם וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵן יָבוֹא אֶל־־הַמַּחֲנֶה: 20 וְהָיְתָה לָכֶם לְחַקת עוֹלָם בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְׁבִיעי בֶּעָשׂוֹר לַחֹרֶשׁ תְּעַנּוּ אֶת־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם וְכָל־מְלָאכָה לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ הָאֶזְרָח וְחַבֶּר הַגָּר בְּתוֹכְכֶם: 30 כִּי־־בַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה יְכַפֶּר עֲלֵיכֶם לְטַהֵר אֶתְכֶם מִכּל חַטְאתֵיכֶם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה תִּטְהָרוּ : 31 שַׁבַּת שַׁבָּתוֹן הִיא לָכֶם וְעִנִּיתֶם אֶת־־נַפְשְׁתֵיכֶם חֲקַת עוֹלָם: 32 וְכָפֶר הַכֹּהֵן אֲשֶׁר־יִמְשַׁח אֹתוֹ וַאֲשֶׁר יְמַלֵא אֶת־יָרֹוֹ לְכַהֵן תַּחַת אָבִיו וְלָבַשׁ אֶת־־בִּנְדִי הַבָּר בִּנְדִי הַקְדֶש : 33: וְכִפֶּר אֶת־מִקְדָּשׁ הַחֹדֶשׁ וְאֶת־אָהֶל מוֹעֵד וְאֶת־־ הַמִּזְבֵּחַ יְכַפֶּר מֵעַל הַכֹּהֲנִים וְעַל־כָּל־עַם הַקָהָל יְכפּר : 34 וְהָיְתָה־זֹּאת לָכֶם לְחָקַת עוֹלָם לְכַפֶּר עַל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִכָּל־חַטאתָם אַחַת בַּשָּׁנָה וַיַּעַשׂ כַּאֲשֶׁר צִיָּה יְהוָה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה : וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר: 2 דִּבֵּר אֶל־ אַהֲרן וְאֶל־בָּנָיו וְאֶל כָּל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵיהֶם : : פ רביעי within the vail, and do with that blood, as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy-seat, and before the mercy-seat. 16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation that remaineth among them, in the midst of their uncleanness. 17 And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation, when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel. the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scape-goat.* 9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD's lot fell, and offer him for a sinoffering. 10 But the goat on which the lot fell to be the scape-goat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scape-goat into the wilderness. 11 ¶ And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin-offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin-offering, which is for himself. 12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail. § 13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy-seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not. 14 And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercyseat east-ward: and before the mercy-seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times. 15 Then shall he kill the goat of the sin-offering that is for the people, and bring his blood 18 And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the LORD, T and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about. 19 And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel. 20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat: 21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions. * Ver. 8, 10, 26.—In Hebrew it is called Azazel which is a mysterious word, the meaning whereof is not understood. Some say, it is a mountain near Sinai, whither this goat was sent : others, that it is called the scape-goat because he was not offered, but sent into the deserts, as in ver. 21. § The holiest of all. He could never be ordered to sprinkle upon the mercy-seat, where the Shechina attended; for, he was not permitted even to look at it; and the smoke of the incense was first ordered, in verse 13, to hide the Shechina. But this means, that he was to sprinkle once on high, but in the front of the mercy-seat, and seven times lower down; and verse 15, means the same. Placed among them which are unclean.
