359. Will the general judgment come upon the world suddenly and unexpectedly?

Mat. 24. 37. As the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away: so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Mat. 25. 13. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Mk. 13. 32. But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray; for ye know not when the time is. 35. Ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock-crowing, or in the morning. Lk. 12. 40. Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

Lk. 17. 24. As the lightning that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. 28. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot: they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all: Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Lk. 21. 35. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always.

Knowledge.

360. Are knowledge and wisdom of inestimable value?

Job 28. 12. Where shall wisdom be found?-Man knoweth not the price thereof 15. It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. 18. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.. 28. The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Pr. 3. 13. Happy is the man that findeth wisdom,. and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandize of it is better than the merchandize of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retain

eth her.

Pr. 4. 7. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding..

Ignorance, sinful and dangerous.

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her.

She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. 13. Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

Pr. 8. 10. Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

Pr. 19. 8. He that getteth wisdem loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good. Pr. 23. 23. Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

361. Is it sinful and dangerous to be ignorant?

Ps. 32. 9. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

Pr. 13. 18. Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction.

Pr. 15. 32. He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof, getteth understanding.

Pr. 19. 2. That the soul be without knowledge, it is not good. 20. Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

Is. 5. 13. My people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge.

Hos. 4. 1. The Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. 6. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me.

362. How can knowledge and wisdom be attained?

Pr. 2. 3. If thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

Pr. 18. 1. Through desire, a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

Jam. 1. 5. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.

363. Is the acquisition of knowledge and wisdom encouraged?

Pr. 2. 10. When wisdom entereth into thy heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man.

Pr. 4, 5. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her and she shall keep thee.

Ec. 7. 12. Wisdom giveth life to them that have it. Dan. 12. 3. They that be wise, shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness, as the stars forever and ever.

364. Ought we to impart knowledge and wisdom to others?

Rom. 15. 2. Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification.

Heb. 3. 13. Exhort one another daily, while it is called To-day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Heb. 10. 24. Let us consider one another, to provoke unto love, and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. [See Reproof.] 365. Is self-knowledge required?

Lam. 3. 40. Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord.

1 Cor. 11. 27. Whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

2 Cor. 13. 5. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

366. Will knowledge be more perfect and valuable kereafter?

1 S. 16. 7. The Lord seeth not as man seeth,
