E X TRACT OF THE Rev. Mr. JOHN WESLEY's JOURNAL, From Nov. 2, 1751, to Oct. 28, 1754. Printed and fold at the New-Chapel, City-Road; and at the AN EXTRACT OF THE Rev. Mr. JOHN WESLEY'S JOURNAL. MR Saturday, November 2, 175. R Arvin, according to my defire informed Mr. M that I was willing to give him twenty pounds a year, for affifting me once a week. He refuled it with the utmoft indignation, and from that time spoke all manner of evil. Monday 11. I rode to Rochefer and the next day to Canterbury, where I preached morning and evening, in what was lately the French church. We had not any difturbance from first to laft: the Court of King's-Bench having broke the fpirits of the rioters. Saturday 1 16. I fet out early in a clear, calm morning, and in the afternoon came to London. Tuefday 19. I began writing a letter to the Com parer of the Papifts and Methodifts. Heavy work; fuch as I thould never chufe: but fometimes it must be done. Well might the antient fay, "God made practical divinity neceffury; the devil controverfial." A 2 |
