5 For thou, O Lord, haft heard my defires : and haft given an heritage unto those that fear thy Name.

6 Thou shalt grant the King along life: *that his years may endure throughout all generations.

Y foul truly waiteth ftill upon God: for of him cometh my falvation.

2 He verily is my ftrength and my falvation: he is my defence, fo that I fhall not greatly fall.

A Pfalm of David, when he was in the Wilderness of Juda, either during the time he was perfecuted by Saul, 1 Sam. xxii, 5. or elfe when he was driven thither by Abfalom's Rebellion: The latter feems more probable, because he gives himself the Title of King, ver. 12. which he would fcarce have done in Saul's Life-time. God, thou art my God: early will I feek thee. 2 My foul thirfteth for thee, my flesh alfo longeth after thee: in a barren and dry land where no water is.

3 [Thus have I looked for thee in holiness: that I might behold thy power and glory.]

3 [With fuch longing defires have I looked for thee, as Men ufe to do for their loft Friends, or Treasures; that I might once again behold that place, where thy Power and Majefty are fo effectually prefent]

4 For thy loving-kindness is better than the Life it felf: my lips fhall praise thee.

6 My foul fhall be fatisfied, even as it were with marrow and fatnefs: when my mouth praiseth thee with joyful lips.

7 Have I not remembred thee in my bed: and thought upon thee when I was waking?

8 Because thou haft been my helper: therefore under the fhadow of thy wings will I rejoyce.

Ear my voice, O God, in

my prayer: preferve my life from fear of the enemy.

2 Hide me from the gathering together of the froward: and from the infurrection of wicked doers.

3 Who have whet their tongue like a fword: and fhoot out their arrows, even bitter words.

4 That they may privily fhoot at him that is perfect: fuddenly do they hit him and fear not.

5 They encourage themselves in mifchief: and commune among themselves, how they may lay fnares, and fay that no man fhall fee them.

6 They imagine wickedness, and practise it: that they keep fecret among themselves, every man in the deep of his heart.

7 But God fhall fuddenly fhoot at them with a swift arrow that they fhall be wounded.

8 Yea, their own tongues fhall make them fall: infomuch that whofo feeth them fhall laugh them to scorn.

9 And all men that fee it, fhall fay, This hath God done: for they fhall perceive that it is his work.
