An Act to render valid certain Title Deeds for Inam Lands.

WHEREAS

HEREAS by an Act passed in the twenty-second and twentythird years of the reign of Her present Majesty, amending an Act passed in the twenty-first and twenty-second years of the reign of Her present Majesty, intituled "An Act for the better govern5 "ment of India," it was provided that any deed, contract, or other instrument for the purpose of disposing of real estate in India, vested in Her Majesty under the said last-mentioned Act, may be expressed to be executed as on behalf of the Secretary of State for India in Council, by or by order of the Governor General in 10 Council, or the Governor of Fort Saint George or of Bombay in Council:

And whereas certain title deeds have been issued for Inam lands in the Presidency of Fort Saint George by the Inam commissioner in the execution of his office in that respect in which it is not 15 expressed that they are executed by order of the Governor in

Council, and which further purport to have been executed on behalf of the Governor in Council instead of on behalf of the Secretary of State for India in Council:

And whereas it is apprehended that such title deeds might, under 20 the operation of the Acts above recited, be invalid:

Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

A.D. 1869.

1. That no title deed for Inam lands issued by the Inam commis- Title deeds sioner in the Presidency of Fort Saint George up to the date of the passing of this Act shall be deemed invalid on the ground that such deed is not expressed therein to have been executed by order of the Governor in Council, or that it is expressed to 30 have been executed on behalf of the Governor in Council of Fort

A.D. 1869. Saint George instead of on behalf of the Secretary of State for India in Council; and all such title deeds shall be read and have the same effect as if they were expressed to have been executed by order of the Governor in Council and on behalf of the Secretary of State for India in Council.

preserved at Durham, and for abolishing the office of
Cursitor of the Court of Chancery in the palatine of
Durham.

HEREAS several Acts of Parliament, private as well as public, have been heretofore passed for dividing, allotting, and inclosing certain lands, commons, and commonable lands in the counties of York and Durham, and by the same Acts, or some of 5 them, it was enacted that the awards made thereunder or pursuant thereto, or copies or duplicates of such awards, and the plans thereto belonging should be deposited and enrolled in the city of Durham in some or one of the offices under mentioned, viz., the office of auditor of the Bishop of Durham, the office of clerk of the peace of 10 the county of Durham, the registrar of the Court of Chancery, Durham, the office of the Dean and Chapter of Durham, and the office of the cursitor in chancery of the palatine of Durham :

And whereas it is expedient that all the said several awards, plans, enrolments, duplicates, and copies should be deposited in one place 15 for the greater convenience of persons requiring to consult them:

Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
