The slothful man saith, ‘A lion is | in the | street ; In the open places, I shall be slain.'

The desire of the slothful killeth him; ¡

For his hands re | fuse to labour.

Go to the ant, thou | sluggard ;
Consider her ways and be wise.
She provideth her meat in the summer;
And gathereth her food in the harvest.

The wicked man worketh for deceitful wages; But he who soweth righteousness hath a sure re ward.

Riches profit not in the day of wrath;

But righteousness deliver eth from | death.

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath not anything;

There is that maketh himself poor, yet | hath. great wealth.

The blessing of the Lord, that maketh | rich;
And he addeth no | sorrow | with it.

A good name is to be chosen rather than great | riches;

And loving favour | rather than silver and gold. The rich and the poor | meet to | gether;

The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he cat much or little;

But the abundance of the rich will not suffer him

to sleep.

PROVERBS.

HE that hath pity upon the poor, lendeth un to

Lord;

And that which he hath given | will he | pay him a Į

gain.

He that stoppeth his ears at the cry of the | poor, He also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

Deliver those that are drawn unto death, and those that are hurried on | to be slain :

If thou forbear, because thou sayest, 'Lo, | we know | not this man ;'

Shall not he who pondereth hearts discern? and he

that keepeth thy soul, doth | he not | know it? And shall he not render to every man ac | cording | to his works?

When thine enemy falleth, rejoice | not;
Nor, when he stumbleth, let thy heart ex ult.
Say not, 'As he hath done to me, so will I

him,

do to | I will render to him ac | cording | to his | work.'

Better is a dinner of herbs, if | love be | there,
Than a fatted ox, and hatred | with it.
Better is a dry morsel with quietness,

Than a house full of sacrifices | of contention.

If he that hateth thee be hungry, give him | bread

to eat;

And if he be thirsty, | give him | water to drink.

For brands of fire thou wilt heap up | on his head, And the Lord will | recompense thee.

Recompense to no man evil for | evil:

Bless them which persecute you; | bless and curse

not:

Be not overcome by | evil,

But overcome | evil with | gocd.

PROVERBS. ROMANS XII. 14,17,21.

Who hath contentions? | who hath complaint?

Look not thou on the wine, when | it is | red, When it sparkleth in the cup, | when it moveth | quickly.

At the last it biteth | like a serpent,

And like an adder it dif| fuseth poison.
Thine eyes will look on foreign | women:

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging;
And no one led astray thereby | can become wise.
Poor will be the man that loveth | pleasure;
He that loveth wine and oil shall not be | rich.

For the drunkard and the glutton shall | come to poverty;

How exceeding strong is | wine!

It causeth all men to err that | drink it.

Let not drunkenness go with thee | in thy | journey; It diminisheth | strength, it maketh | wounds.

Give thy neighbour no de | spiteful | words;

And press not upon him with | urging | him to

Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour | drink ; That puttest thy bottle to him, and makest | him I drunken also.

Shew not thy valiant | ness in wine,
For wine hath destroyed many.

A labouring man that is given to drunkenness shal! | not be rich;

And he that contemneth small things shall fall by | little and little.

It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, Nor anything whereby thy | brother is caused to |
