FORM FOR THE

ADMINISTRATION OF BAPTISM.

IT

T is written in the Gospel of Matthew, that our Lord Jesus Christ said to his apostles: "Go ye, and make disciples of all nations, baptising them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.' Matt. xxviii. 19.

[ocr errors]

It is also written in the Acts of the Apostles, that the disciples were baptised into the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts, xix. 5.

The Minister, addressing himself to the parents or friends of the child, shall say:

Ye have brought this child here to be baptised: I ask, therefore, Will ye faithfully

and earnestly teach this child to shun every thing that is evil, and to resist all sinful inclinations, so that he [she] may not follow or be led by them?

Answer. I will.

Will your instruct him [her] in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ?

Answer. I will.

Will ye exhort him [her] to keep God's holy will and commandments, and to walk in the same all the days of his [her] life? Answer. I will.

T Then the Minister shall take the child, and say to the parents:

Name this child.

Then naming the child, and using the water, he shall say:

I baptise thee into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Or the following Form may be used:

I baptise thee in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts, ii. 38; xix. 5.

M

¶ Here the Minister may deliver an Exhortation to the parents or friends; and afterwards conclude the service with the following Prayer.

Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY and ever-blessed God, by whose providence the different generations of mankind are raised up to know thee, and to enjoy thy favour for ever; grant that this child, now dedicated to thee as the disciple of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, may be endued with heavenly virtues, and partake hereafter of thy everlasting favour. For this end we entreat thy blessing upon these thy servants, who have now solemnly engaged themselves to instruct it in thy holy truth; that they may be enabled to discharge. their great trust with diligence and fidelity, and may have the comfort of beholding the fruits of their pious labours, in the virtuous improvement of those under their care. Finally, we give thee humble thanks, O heavenly Father, for all of us now assembled before thee, that thou hast vouchsafed to call us to the knowledge of thy grace, and to faith in thee. Increase this knowledge, and confirm this faith in us, evermore; that

we may be enabled to subdue all our evil and corrupt affections, and daily proceed in all virtue and godliness of living, till we come to that eternal kingdom which thou hast promised by Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.

N.B.-Should any persons prefer a simple act of Dedication to administering the rite of Baptism, the foregoing Form may still be used, by merely omitting the introductory sentences, substituting the word dedicate for the word baptise, and, in place of the baptismal formula, employing such a mode of dedicating the child to God through Christ, as the officiating Minister may deem proper.

FORM FOR THE

LORD'S SUPPER.

The Service to be introduced with a short Address from the Minister; after which the following Scripture to be read.

THE Lord Jesus, the same night in which

he was betrayed, took bread; and, when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat this is my body which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also, he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of
