death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. The ruler fsaith unto him, Sir, come down or ever that my son die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way, thy son liveth. The man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And, as he was going down, the servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend: and they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was the same hour in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth; and he believed, and all his household. This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Jewry into Galilee.

Appropinquet deprecatio. Ps. cxix.

LET my complaint come before thee, O Lord: give me understanding, according unto thy word.

O let my supplication come before thee: deliver me, according to thy word.

My lips shall speak of thy praise when thou hast taught me thy statutes.

Yea, my tongue shall sing of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteous.

Let thine hand help me : for I have chosen thy command

LORD, we beseech thee to keep thy household the church in continual godliness; that through thy protection it may be free from all adversities, and devoutly given to serve thee in good works, to the glory of thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Epistle. Philip. i.

I THANK my God with all remembrance of you always in all my prayers for you, and pray with gladness; because ye are come into the fellowship of the gospel, from the first day funto now; and am surely certified of this, that he which hath begun a good work in you shall perform it until the day of Jesus Christ; as it becometh me, so judge I of you all, because I have you in my heart, forasmuch as ye are all companions of grace with me, even in my bonds, and in the defending hand stablishing of the gospel. For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all from the very heart root in Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may increase yet more and more in knowledge, and in all understanding: that ye may accept the things that are most excellent,

that ye may be pure, and such as offend no man, until the day of

Christ: being filled with the fruit of righteousness, which cometh by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

The Gospel. Matt. xviii.

PETER said unto Jesus, Lord, how oft shall I forgive my brother, if he sin against me? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Seventy times seven times. Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain man that was a king, which would take accounts of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which ought him ten thousand talents. But foras

much as he was not able to pay, his Lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant fell down, and besought him, saying, Sir, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then had the lord pity on that servant, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. So the same servant went out, and found one of his fellows, which ought him an hundred pence; and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay that thou owest. And his fellow fell down, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he would not; but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. So when his fellows saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that had happened. Then his lord called him, and said unto him, O thou ungracious servant, I forgave thee all that debt, when thou desiredst me: shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the jailors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father ido also to you, if ye from your hearts forgive not (every one his brother) their trespasses.

Nisi quia Dominus. Psalm cxxiv.

IF the Lord himself had not been on our side (now may Israel say) if the Lord himself had not been on our side, when men rose up against us;

They had swallowed us up quick when they were so wrathfully displeased at us.

Yea, the waters had drowned us and the stream had gone over our soul.

The deep waters of the proud: had

gone even over our soul. But praised be the Lord : which hath not given us over for a prey unto their teeth.

GOD, our refuge and strength, which art the author of all godliness; Be ready to hear the devout prayers of thy church; and grant that those things which we ask faithfully we may obtain effectually; through Jesu Christ our Lord.

The Epistle. Philipp. iii.

BRETHREN, be followers together of me, and look on them which walk even so as ye have us for an example. For many walk, (of whom I have told you often, and now tell you weeping,) that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ; whose end is damnation, whose belly is their god, and glory to their shame, which are worldly minded. But our conversation is in heaven; from whence we look for the Saviour, even the Lord Jesus Christ; which shall change our vile body, that he may make it like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able also to subdue all things unto himself.

The Gospel. Matt. xxii.

THEN the Pharisees went out and took counsel how they might tangle him in his words. And they sent out unto him their disciples, with Herod's servants, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God truly, neither carest thou for any man for thou regardest not the outward appearance of men. Tell us therefore, how thinkest thou? Is it lawful that tribute be given unto Cæsar, or not? But Jesus, perceiving their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? shew me the tribute-money. And they took him a penny. And he said unto 1 ensample 1552.

them, Whose is this image and superscription? They said unto him, Cæsar's. Then said he unto them, Give therefore unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar's; and unto God those things "that are God's. When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.
