Resolved, unanimously, that the plan of the Theological Seminary, Article 1, Sect. 2, be amended so as to read thus

The General Assembly shall choose a Board of Directors, consisting of twenty-one ministers and nine ruling elders, by whom the Seminary shall be inspected and conducted Of this number, one third or seven ministers and three elders, shall be chosen annually; to continue in office three years-And if any vacancy shall occur in the Board, by death, resignation, or incapacity to serve, the Assembly may annually fill up such vacan

cies.

Resolved, That as the whole number of the Directors, is to be elected at this time, the seven ministers and the three elders, who have the greatest number of votes, be considered as elected for three years-the next highest seven ministers and three elders, for two yearsand the next highest seven ministers and three elders, for one year.

Resolved, further, that if, in thus classing the Directors, any should be found to have an equal number of votes, they may be classed according to seniority in office.

Resolved, That it be the duty of the Board of Directors, every year in their report to the Assembly, to give a list of the Directors, whose term of service may have expired, as well as of those whose seats may have become vacant by death, resignation, or incapacity to

serve.

The following persons were elected as a Board of Directors of the Theological Seminary, agreeably to a resolution of this Assembly: viz.

The Committee to which was referred the consideration of the Report of the Directors of the Theological Seminary, reported; and their report being read was adopted, and is as follows: viz.

That, from the pleasing accounts given by the Board, the Assembly owe the most grateful acknowledgments to the King of Zion, in that he appears, in such a conspicuous manner, to have lifted the light of his countenance on that infant Seminary.

Had our nation been under the most peaceful and flourishing circumstances, since the organization of that Institution, we could scarcely have expected a more favourable account, than that which has been exhibited in the above report. What, then, may we expect, under the smiles of a propitious Providence, if proper future exertions be made;-when we take into view that spirit of liberality with which it has pleased God to inspire the people under the care of the Assembly, when we are favoured with the blessings of Peace?

These considerations may not only induce, but stimulate us to proceed in our future exertions to obtain those objects which are indispensably necessary for its continued existence and prosperity.

Your Committee consider the thanks of the Assembly due to those benevolent Female Societies, by which such laudable exertions have been made for the education of indigent and pious youths, in that Seminary; not only by pecuniary aid, but also in other things, we believe, unparalleled in similar circumstances. And it is pleasing to learn, that not less than sixteen students are supported at the expense of those Societies.

From the report of the Board respecting the examination of the students, at the end of each session, it gives your committee pleasure to believe, that the Professors have been faithful in the discharge of their official duties, and that the wishes of the Assembly have been realized in the progress made by their pupils. They are also happy to learn that the students have conducted themselves in such a manner as does honor both to themselves and their teachers; not only in their moral and religious conduct, but in their endeavours to promote religion in the minds of the people in their vicinity.

But the main subject referred to your Committee is, the expediency of erecting buildings suitable for the accommodation of the Professors and students. On this important subject, your Committee beg leave to report, that taking into view the considerations already suggested, as to the spirit of our people for the support of the Seminary, and humble reliance on a superintending Providence, we have encouragement to proceed further in our views and exertions, by endeavouring to effect those things which are indispensably necessary for its support and future existence.

Your Committee do, therefore, recommend, that measures be adopted by which the necessary buildings may be erected, as soon as circumstances will admit.

As it is recommended by the Board to inform the public what sums are necessary to endow a Professorship and a Scholarship, your committee recommend, that a sum not less than Twenty five thousand Dollars be considered as requisite to endow a professorship; and a sum not less than Two thousand five hundred

Dollars be considered as requisite to endow a scholarship.

Resolved, that the Assembly do hereby authorize the Board of Directors to proceed, without delay, in purchasing materials for the erection of a principal edifice for the accommodation of the Theological Seminary, on such plan as they may think proper; and to lay the foundation of said edifice during the present

year.

The committee appointed to prepare a statement of the result of the reports of Agents to solicit donations to the Theological Seminary; and to devise, and report to the Assembly, a plan to be adopted for the future increase of the funds of the Seminary, reported; and their report, being read and amended, was adop ted, and is as follows: viz.
