מַשָׂאוֹ : 20 וְלֹא־־יָבִאוּ לִרְאוֹת כְּבַלַע אֶת־־הָקִדֶשׁ
קדר 24 וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל-משֶׁה לַאמְר: 22 נָשׂא אֶת־רָאשׁ בְּנֵי גֵרְשׁוֹן גַם־הֶם לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם: ו 23 מִבֶּן שְׁלשִׁים שָׁנָה וָמַעְלָה עָד בֶּן־חֲמִשִּׁים שָׁנָה תִּפְקְר
אוֹתָם כָּל־הַבָּא לִצְבָא צָבָא לַעֲבֹד עֲבֹדָה בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֶד: 24 זאת עֲבֹדַת מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַגַּרְשְׁבִּי לַעֲבֹד וּלְמַשָׂא :
וְנָשְׂאוּ אֶת־יְרִיעַת הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְאֶת־אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד מִכְסֵהוּ וּמִכְסֵה הַתַּחַשׁ אֲשֶׁר־עָלִין מִלְמָעְלָה וְאֶת־מָלַךְ פְּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֶד : 26 וְאֵת קַלְעֵי הֶחָצֵר וְאֶת־מָסַךְ פֶתַחי שַׁעַר הֶחָצֵר אֲשֶׁר עַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְעַל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ סָבִיב וְאֵת מִיתְרֵיהֶם וְאֶת־כָּל־כְּלֵי עַבְדָתָם וְאֵת כָּל־אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה לָהֶם וְעָבָדוּ: 27 עַל־פִּי אַהֲרן וּבָנָיו תִּהְיֶה כָּל-עֲבֹדַת בְּנֵי הַבְּרִשְׁבִּי לְכָל־מַשָׂאָם וּלְכָל עֶבְדָרָם וּפְקַדְתֶּם עֲלֵהֶם בְּמִשְׁמֶרֶת אֵת כָּל־מַשָׂאָס: 28 זאת עֲבֹדַת מִשְׁפְּחֹת בְּנֵי הַבְּרִשְׁנֵי בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וּמִשְׁמַרְתָּם בְּיַד אִיתָמָר בֶּן־אַהְרן הַכֹּהֵן :

Ver, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12., Badger's skins are all singular--in Hebrew badger's skin. $ Vide the observations on Exodus, chap. xxv. ver. 29.
As it may be questioned, what was done with the fire on the altar which came down from heaven? Jarchi answers, that it was preserved on the altar during the march; and was kept from burning the garments by means of a copper vessel, with which it was covered.
# This seems to me to be rather a toleration than a perpetual order, on account of there being no priests at that time but Aaron and his two sons; for, his grand-children were not installed in the priesthood till the fortieth year, that Phineas and all his generation were preferred to the priesthood, (vide chap. xxv. ver. 13,) which occasioned a great addition in the number of priests. Add to this, all Eleazar's and Ithamar's sons born in these forty years ; and this was the cause of the toleration having ceased : as we sec in Deuteronomy, chap. xxxi, ver. 9, that Scripture styled the priests those that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord.
Hence we may perceive the sacredness of these things; as no one was thought worthy of having those intrusted to them, save Eleazar. But according to the opinion of Nachmanides, Eleazar did not carry them, (because that he observes, from verse 4, was the business of the sons of Kobath,) but only to take care of their safety.

* This is meant that he should take the sum of those that were able to bear burdens, and which was, as mentioned in the following verse, from thirty yours old and upward, even until fifty years old, because, as Jarchi observes, before thirty a man does not arrive at his full strength; and after fifty, iî begins to decline.
