PARAGRAPH 314-THREAD. EXPORT TRADE. For the reasons explained in the paragraph headed "Manufacture of cotton threads," it is impossible for American manufacturers to compete in foreign markets. The export business done from the United States is insignificant, and whatever is exported is sold at the full United States market prices f. o. b. American ports. The facts and conditions as set forth in the foregoing memorial we trust will fully explain the status of the cotton-thread industry in this country and its great need for tariff protection, and we earnestly pray that your honored committee will not reduce the tariff below the schedule offered.
