THE following experimental and interesting Dialogues came into the Translator's possession some years back. At that time he had a head knowledge of the doctrines contained in them, but no heart acquaintance with the grace of those doctrines. This, working with the pride of nature, led to daring presumption, which would have precipitated his soul into the yawning gulph of eternal ruin, had not mercy prevented. But God was merciful; and, to the conviction of sin, added the gifts of repentance and faith, which, conducting to the cross of the Lord Jesus, begot in him a living hope, and eventually issued in the attainment of peace with a justly offended God. He can now subscribe to much of the experience, so faithfully and scripturally detailed in this excellent little Treatise; and being persuaded that it is a work pre-eminently fitted, as a means, under the divine blessing, to promote the increase and progress of vital religion, he humbly presents a translation of it to the public, praying that, whereever the providence of God may direct its course, |
