The compiler of the following little manual feels that some apology is due from him for adding to the already numerous list of excellent works of the present kind. Amongst such of these, however, as the author has himself met with, he recollects no short and simple selection, consisting of prayers taken exclusively, or nearly so, from the beautiful liturgy of the english church, admirably adapted as it is for purposes of devotion, whether publick or private. Again, in such compilations as are at present extant, the arrangement, in the author's estimation, is either faulty and complicated, or the prayers are too numerous for general use. M. Feast of S.
