CATHOLICK

Prayers,

FOR FAMILY OR PRIVATE USE,

More especially intended for the use of those who are pre-
vented from attending the Daily Services of the Church,

Let my prayer be set forth in Thy sight as the Encense :
and let the lifting up of my hands be as the Evening
Sacrifice.

Preface.

The compiler of the following little manual feels that some apology is due from him for adding to the already numerous list of excellent works of the present kind.

Amongst such of these, however, as the author has himself met with, he recollects no short and simple selection, consisting of prayers taken exclusively, or nearly so, from the beautiful liturgy of the english church, admirably adapted as it is for purposes of devotion, whether publick or private.

Again, in such compilations as are at present extant, the arrangement, in the author's estimation, is either faulty and complicated, or the prayers are too numerous for general use.

BELIEVE in GOD, the FATHER ALMIGHTY,
Maker of heaven and earth.

And in JESUS CHRIST, His only Son, our LORD.

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried.

He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of GOD, the FATHER ALMIGHTY. From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost.

The holy Catholick Church, the communion of saints.

The forgiveness of sins.

The resurrection of the body.

And the life everlasting. Amen.

The Confession.

LMIGHTY and most merciful FATHER;

we have erred, and strayed from Thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health
