An Ordinance to amend and render permanent the Act therein mentioned, passed to facilitate the administration of Justice in Civil matters, in the Districts of Quebec, Montreal, Three Rivers and Saint Francis.

HEREAS it is expedient to amend and render permanent the Act hereinafter mentioned, which has been continued in force by subsequent Acts until the first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and forty, when it would otherwise expire :-Be it therefore Ordained and Enacted by His Excellency the Governor of this Province of Lower Canada, by and with the advice and consent of the Special Council for the affairs of this Province, constituted and assembled by virtue and under the authority of an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, passed in the first

TTENDU qu'il est expédient d'amender et rendre permanent l'Acte ci-après mentionné qui a été continué en force par des Actes subséquents jusqu'au premier jour de Mai mil huit cent quarante, temps auquel il expirerait autrement:-Qu'il soit donc Ordonné et Statué par Son Excellence le Gouverneur de cette Province du Bas. Canada, par et de l'avis et consentement du Conseil Spécial pour les affaires de cette Province, constitué et assemblé en vertu et sous l'autorité d'un Acte du Parlement du Royaume-Uni de la Grande-Bretagne et d'Irlande, passé dans la première année du règne de Sa présente Majesté, intitulé, "Acte pour établir des dispositions temporaires pour le Gouvernement du Bas-Canada," et aussi en vertu et sous l'autorité d'un certain autre Acte du même Parlement, passé dans la Session

respecting Enquetes in Civil matters before the Courts of King's Bench for the Districts of Quebec, Montreal, Three Rivers and the Inferior District of Saint Francis," as hereby amended, shall be, and the said Act so amended as aforesaid, is hereby made permanent, and shall remain in force until repealed or altered by competent authority, any thing in the said Act to the contrary notwithstanding.

II. Provided always, and be it further Ordained and Enacted by the authority District of aforesaid, that the Provincial Judge for the District of Saint Francis, shall be and is ry the issue of hereby authorised in all cases of trial by Jury in Civil causes pending before the Court of King's Bench for the said District, to try the issue of fact, and receive the dict of Juries in verdict of Juries in vacation, between the Terms of the said Court, on such days as the said Court shall, during Term, have appointed for that purpose.

II. Pourvu toujours et qu'il soit de plus Ordonné et Statué par l'autorité susdite, que le Juge Provincial du district de Saint François, soit, et il est par les présentes en tous cas de procès par jury dans des causes Civiles pendante devant la Cour du Banc du Roi pour le dit district, autorisé à entendre le procès sur l'issue de fait, et à recevoir le verdict des jurés en vacance, entre les Termes de la dite Cour, tels jours que la dite Cour aura eu Terme fixé pour cet objet..

An Ordinance to render permanent certain Ordinances therein mentioned, providing for the indemnification of persons who may have acted in the suppression of unlawful assemblies or of Treasonable practices, and for the attainder of persons against whom sentences may have been given by Courts Martial.

HEREAS it is expedient that the Ordinances hereinafter mentioned, should be made permanent:-Be it therefore Ordained and Enacted by His Excellency the Governor of this Province of Lower Canada, by and with the advice and consent of the Special Council for the affairs of this Province, constituted and assembled by virtue and under the authority of an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, passed in the first year of the Reign of Her present Majesty, intituled, "An Act to "make temporary provision for the Government of Lower Canada;" and also by virtue and under the authority of a certain other Act of the same Parliament, passed in the Session held in the second and third years of the Reign of Her present Majesty, intituled, "An Act to amend an Act of the last Session of Parliament, for making temporary provision for the Government of Lower Canada;" And it is hereby Ordained and Enacted by the authority of the said Acts of Parliament, that the Ordinance of His Excellency the Administrator of the Government of this Province, authorized to execute the Commission of the Governor thereof, and of the Special Council for the affairs of the said Province, passed in the first year of Her Majesty's Reign, and intituled, "An Ordinance for indemnifying persons who since the first day of October, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-seven, have acted "in apprehending, imprisoning, or detaining in custody, persons suspected of High Treason, or Treasonable practices, and in the suppression of unlawful assemblies, and for other purposes therein mentioned," and the Ordinance of His Excellency the Administrator of the Government of this Province, authorised to execute the Commission of the Governor thereof, and of the Special Council for the affairs of the said Province, passed in the second year of Her Majesty's Reign, intituled, "An Ordinance for indemnifying persons who since the first day of No"vember, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-eight, have acted in apprehend
